Drove my wife's Passat 2009 2.0T TSI to work.

This thing is really peppy. Didn't know it could spin the tires so easily.

ASR makes a chip for this car, brings it up to like 260 hp and 290 ft-lbs. Thinking of convincing her she needs it for "safety".

Passats are nice cars...but this is what you're actually seeing. Get in any non economy focused FWD car with marginal all season tires and you can achieve wheel spin all day. Hell I was spinning tires in a rental Camry Hybrid over the weekend

Give them decent rubber and all you get instead of proper wheelspin is axle bounce, most unpleasant.

I had a B5 chassis APR chipped Passat. Loved it. The chip totally transforms the little 4-banger. I don't know about the front suspension of the newer Passats, but they used to have the Audi 5 link design which was wonderful at handling power. It had very little torque steer and easily controllable. Sometimes I would forget that it was a front wheel drive.

Its just a fun car, has good torque all around. Feels like a miniature version of the 135.

Does anyone know if it's ok to use 87 in this car? It is turbo and I dont want any problems.

I would imagine it would be ok, although the manual asks for 91 octane.

and to think the VW's still have the "old' 2.0T.. drive the Audi 2.0 and you will really be suprised

It says "premium fuels only" right on the gas door. I just sold my GTI TSI. In some ways it "felt" faster than my 135 due to the contrast between no turbo and turbo. The lag really gives an illusion of power. The BMW is faster in every way.

So has anyone ran 87 octane in the passat 2.0 TSI engine or not?

Just wondering, I don't think it will grenade a motor. Engines are designed to work under strange conditions accounted for (fuel quality, octane etc...)

Really? I think it's the low-down torque that does that. My Solstice GXP feels faster than my M Coupe, though the Z4MC is much faster thanks to more gears and aggressive gearing.

I have the Jetta JSW 2.0T. I really want to chip it bad. Prolly going to eventually. You're damn right about the wheel spin too. It's a little too easy to let the wheels loose, kinda aggrevating especially when trying to come off the light quick. All in all I'm happy with the car but I'd still prefer my past 325i over it.

No I would not put less then 91 in the car. Plus with the turbo why chance putting 87 in the car and messin with the compression and turbo. Would you put less then premium in your BMW? I personnally would never cheap out on my gas to save a mear .30 cents a gallon or so.

You can run 87 octane in the Passat; however, I would not recommend it. The engine will compensate for the lower octane level, but the car will not perform to its full capabilities, and the long term effects of using a lower octane can be detrimental to the life of the engine.

Don't run 87! You'd probably decrease your gas mileage enough to where it would offset the cost benefit.

Also, chip the car with APR or GIAC and you will be happy.
