I test drove the 335is today! Photos inside

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd share my experience today. While in West Palm Beach for a business appointment, I decided to stop at Braman BMW to check our their inventory as my lease is up this week. I pulled into their lot when I noticed this baby... (click on attachment)

I gotta say, the car looks great and drives like a dream but it was only a slight power/acceleration improvement over a regular 335i. Needless to say, I was a bit dissapointed. The 335is badge on the side was badly placed as it is obviously all crooked. And I never saw any launch control feature, only a sport button. It was kind of surprising that a car that BMW claimed made 370 lbs/ft of torque didnt pick up quicker. But then again, I did drive the dct and I am used to driving the manual. My 335i manual felt nearly as fast in its heyday. I didnt like the dct that much although I will admit it is a huge improvement over the previous steptronic.

I also met a gentleman at the dealership with a fully tuned all blacked out 135i. This car looked amazing and sounded like a beast. It made me think twice about purchasing another 335i. For 10-15k less, I could have the same basic package and could even throw a dinan tune in their as this dealership is Dinan authorized.

Overall, I must say that this 335is is a great car, BUT at 58k staring price with no options, BMW really shot themselves in the foot. I would be very surprised to see many of these on the road as the base m3 coupe is literally within a few hundred dollars of the is. For now, I am pretty intent on ordering a base 335i m sport and tastefully modding it. Thanks for reading!

Maybe the extra 400lbs from the convertible weighed it down? Thanks for sharing though, the front bumper looks sick.

Thanks for the input, do you think angel eyes led's are an easy retro fit?

58k for 335is? or 58k for 335is vert? I dont think anyone will buy a 335is over an m3.

how's the "sport exhaust" sounds on the "is"? just sounds like a "golf-tee'd" 335i?

To be honest with you, I really feel like the "sport exhuast" is a scam. It looks identical to the stock exhaust except for the black finish. No that you mention it, I cant even remember what the exhaust note sounds like. It must not have caught my attention which to me means that BMW downplayed the sound of this exhaust. For the premium price tag on this car, bmw cheaped out by not putting the authentic performance exhaust everyone is raving about. Just my $.02.

It's for the vert. E93 335is will always cost or be around the same as a regular e92 M3, just like an M3 vert can easily get into the $80K+ range.

A well optioned regular 335i e93 is already in the $60's. Is is what? 4-5K more base? Makes sense.

i agree.... if the exhaust couldn't catch your attention while test driving, then the huge mark-up from regular "i" to "is" is lame.... and doesn't even come with an upgraded/sportier exhaust....

Look up BMW Performance Exhaust and you can hear clips of it. It's not going to be overly aggressive but a bit more sportier.

Essentially the 335is is a BMW Performance Power Kit equipped N54 with the sport exhaust and it also has an overboost feature.

if launch control is there I'm sure it's like the M cars there is no specific button it's more of a sequence of events.

2nd on the weight....if the roof really adds 400lbs, that's like losing the equivalent of about 30-40HP, most people agree to 8-10HP per 100lbs.
