It's quite a hazy area for us at the moment, even with the currently adapted E92/E93 some of the Combox features haven't been successful with particular phones. I'm planning to do some investigations when the September build cars are delivered to determine which phones integrate best, as it is with the first batch of Combox inc cars the office, video two-cable support feature and Internet via mobile phone features haven't yet been integrated, these are expected in Sept, but annoyingly there's no telling yet if all of the features will work successfully with specific phones. |

Combox Code
The Combox code is now showing up on the detailed order as "6VC Combox Controller" 6Fl also shows up as the Ipod, but will no longer reguire the y adapter to work.
German factories will include this with September production cars, Spartansburg will start with October. |

I have a december 2009 e93, with 6fl and all other bluetooth and voice options, will combox be available as software update?
Also, most useful thing would be to get email and have it read (like the online news stuff) and to be able to send emails as voice to text or as WAV attachment. Did not see this in list of things it will do, but would consider the above really useful, in my case more useful than art from music albums or missed calls.

I just placed an order for a 328i xDrive and it lists 6VC Combox Controller, 6FL ipod and USB Adapter and 639 BMW Assist with Bluetooth. I'm not getting Navigation in this car. What will Combox do for me? Bluetooth music streaming? I'm certainly not getting album art...

If they are not combined then the 6VC ComBox is the MULF-Hi replacement (6FL) and the 639 is the current TCU with Bluetooth Audio (AD2P) enabled. What you are getting with the ComBox is the capability of playing your iPod thru its own Apple USB cable without DRM restrictions and with full tag display -no need to use the OEM iPod cable as before. |

Well the codes I have listed are directly off of the Vehicle Inquiry sheet printed off by the dealer. Since the 6FL is part of the Value Package and the 639 is part of the Premium package I'm not sure what people who order a non-premium would get. The new 6VC code is listed along with the other stand-alone options and not part of either package.

What the Combox will do in the case of no iDrive but with 639? Other than the new features already discussed (Bluetooth Audio), it will give you a 2-channel Bluetooth connectivity, i.e., two phones can be connected by Bluetooth at the same time. This applies to the iDrive as well. In other words, one phone can be connected for music and the other phone can be connected for phone calls thru Bluetooth. Both phones can be connected as well for phone calls, but only one phone features and phonebook will be displayed and functional in the OEM HU while the other phone will only respond to incoming calls thru the OEM HU. I always wondered why nobody came up with a two -or even a three- channel Bluetooth system in any car yet... ![]() |

I was reading sales bulletin for the Rolls Royce Ghost. The 2011 models which will be built 1st October 2010 onwards will have the Combox feature added to them.
It states "The Combox replaces the previous communications control unit hardware and provides a more efficient system for managing multimedia and communication requirements in the car." |
