How much boost are you pushing? It depends on luck and use I suppose.

Wow!! This is like a why is the sky blue kinda question lol. Nobody knows and can't give you a definite answer. I'm at 41k now running high boost daily with meth and now nitrous and my turbos are fine. Some have only had their cars barely after breakin and had to have them replace, others are way above 50k and still going strong. There is no magic number of when they will die, just try to treat them right. Don't shut down right after running them hard, I know they are water and oil cooled but I still don't do it.

There are members here who utterly abuse their cars (in a good way of course and i'm speaking of 100's of 1/5 mile pulls, tune testing, new crap you make you faster testing.. etc etc) and their engines, transmissions, and turbos are still alive and kicking..

Having a modded cars mean regularly scheduled oil changes of 2500-3000 miles will help the longevity of the engine and the turbos

C'mon guys, be nice....

to the OP....It's REALLY hard to say how long the turbos will last on these cars. From cruising this forum for the last two years the major turbo failure was due to the person running VERY high boost.

There have been other failures mentioned on the forums, but the VAST majority are along the wastegates and not the actual impellers.

My hope and probably many others on this forum is a vendor offering either some rebuild service/kit for the wastegates, especially on older turbo builds (with the 6mm actuator arms vs 8mm)

When the wastegates start rattling, either bring it in for service, or if you are out of warranty, save up for some new turbos

One of the most common symptoms reported other than wastegate rattle, is a low throttle/low rpm siren like noise when the turbos are cold and spooling up.

There seems to be no conclusion as to whether this is a sign of turbos on their way out or not.

From my perspective this doesn't appear to be the case.

In a recent poll on this forum, over 50% of the respondents reported having this sound to some degree.

Personally, I am on my second set of turbos and the new ones make the same noise as the first ones did.

I think the consensus is the fuel pump and turbos are the weak point? No?
Hard to say how long they will go. I think these cars are considered "fair" in reliability at best.

No, you can loosen the motor mounts and raise the engine a little bit to finess the turbo's outta there!

I have 70k on my car and hit 15psi or more everyday. I have had a tune on my car a week after I bought it. I have a rattling sound from the front wastegate but it still pulls hard.
