How much info does the DME upload via satellite?

I got both an e-mail and phone call telling my car is due for service...lol. I've got 18,xxx miles on it and over 3,xxx past "service". I change my oil every 3k miles myself and I'm just waiting til my hpfp to die (one 2fbf and three 2aaf codes).

I brought my car only in once, to get a oil change at 1k miles. I wonder if they got my info from where I haven't been back or data has been uploaded?

Yeah - I avoided the premium package and BMW Assist (or whatever it is called) just for that reason. Wait till the airbags go off at the track and it sends your GPS position (if you don't have track insurance).

You could always get a BT tool and adjust the condition based service status, so it would not ever send out info, but then you would not qualify for free maintenance. I have never gone to the dealer for maintenance so it doesn't bother me to play with the condition based service values.

I got a call from the local dealer offering to fix my left rear tail light.

My dash started showing the light malfunction a couple of weeks ago.

straight answer ...

No -- the information sent to the dealer does not contain "codes" --
it list ONLY fault conditions- low tire pressure -- illumination warning -- DSC inactive -- passenger seat belt not buckled -- low coolant warning -- active steering malfunction -- low fuel level warning -- service due -- service overdue --

anything that trips the check control system...

now i would worry if the message display read
"Tuning Device/Software Detected"

but thats not in the logic of the system -- so the codes you refer to are only listed with a diagnostic check of the car and the fault code interrogation

FWIW it's not sent by satellite, but by cellular data. Same idea, though.

It doesn't send it to the insurance company, so what's the difference?

Wonder why they haven't called me about my airbags being off for the past month and a half because of a faulty seat sensor...

I have a communication error having something to do with my TPM system. I don't have premium, could it be throwing an error(no light except for tpm light) due to the fact that my car can not contact the sattelite to report the tpm issue?

Relax guys, I have premium package too and it doesn't send a damn thing to no one. You simply turn it off in the I-Drive if you are so concerned.

Mine sent messages to the dealer when the car was new and I had problems, but trust me no DME code is sent other than very simple diagnostics stuff that they know exactly what is wrong, like bulbs out, fluids low, or car stalling fuel errors.... Yeah my car was infact tuned, and it never once came up that they saw anything foreign. I turned off the call home feature because I am not that lazy, I can call schedule service myself, and don't like the automatic call home thing much. I value my privacy even if I have nothing to hide.

for reference, you can go to your owners manual and look under the heading TeleService.

the current owners manuals can be found online at:
http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/owner/dgh.aspx

it also tells you how to deactivate the service if required.

They sure as hell never called me offering me a free quart of oil when I got the "add 1qt" warning.
