I saw some DIY installation instructions posted recently, and it sounded like more work than I'd be willing to risk. Is it possible to order these pedals and get them installed at build time, or possibly by the dealer upon delivery?

id like to do it to match my aluminum trim... i think it would set the car off nicely, but at the same time might not be noticable

I think these look real nice and will match silver trimmed cars. Here's a pic from CC330's DIY install in the DIY forum.

I plan on doing the install... doens't seem too bad.

I'm definately fitting mine! But NOT the ones from the brochure!

For some reason they aren't available for right hand drive manuals here in the uk, so it's the aftermarket ones I had for my e46 that'll be going on! Sized them up and they will fit perfectly, so no probs there!!

Don't have the foot rest one though! ;-( But I don't really think that matters so much!

Yes they do have the same fitment as the E46.

I ordered the pedals as a dealer accessory and they were installed at the time of delivery. I was told that they were diffcult to install...don't know if that's true or not. They definitely accentuate the aluminum trin in the car...very cool

Not too difficult if you are comfortable drilling metal. The brake pedal is metal and that is the hardest part. It shouldn't be more than 1 hour labor to have them installed if you have it done for you at the dealer.

Things must be alot different in California because my dealer quoted me $280 for labor!

They can charge you anything they want if you agree to it. Tell them you want them installed for free if you pay retail for the parts. I got the parts at a discount and installed them myself. It was a bit of a pain, but you can learn from my mistakes. It shouldn't take more than about an hour for the labor, and if they charge $280 per hour for labor, I have a few lawyer friends that would probably like to apply for a job as a mechanic at that dealership!

I am sure some people will pay it. $500 is more realistic, and any more than $550 installed for the alarm is highway robbery. It's no secret that dealers like to profit from installing options and accessories on a car.

No I haven't had it activated yet. I travel a lot (I am in Oregon this week, for example) so I didn't bother setting up an appointment until I get back.

I had an appointment 2 weeks ago for the foglights not working, but I called ahead and they claimed they didn't have the software for the alarm yet, so I cancelled the appointment. I figured I would just wait until it was convenient to make another appointment (like it is EVER convenient) and that would give them some time to get their act together. It seems that several other people have had the alarm activated so my dealership is probably either not aware that they have the ability to do this, or are not getting the updates as soon as other dealers.

When I disconnected and reconnected the battery to install the alarm, the foglights started working for a while, but now they have quit again. I think it is a software issue, and I am hoping that I can get both items taken care of in one appointment. I don't want to leave my car there overnight!

RachelS said that she thinks someone at her dealership had a foglight problem and they had to reflash all the software to fix it. No biggie if this is the case, but I want it done soon!! I only needed the foglights once so far, (and didn't REALLY need them), but it bothers me that they don't work.

Oh yes, that reminds me, I have to cut out my "vents" in the domelight fixture or get the dealer to give me a "new" one with the slits already cut. I also need to update the write-up to include this important fact. The ultrasonic sensor won't work if you don't have the slits removed. A few minutes with an X-acto knife should take care of it. I think all except the very first cars should have these slits cut out already, but at least some of the early cars didn't.

For $229 for the alarm, it is worth the extra peace of mind that I get from (eventually) having an alarm. The ultrasonic sensor would even allow you to leave the windows down and the car locked. Someone sticking their hand or body inside would (or is at least supposed to) set off the alarm. Also, there is a tilt sensor that will sound if someone tries to tow the car. Yeah, maybe no one will react, but at least there is more chance that someone will notice.

I installed the 3 pedals myself last night. It was a little more work than I thought. Some thoughts:

1. Clutch pedal is easy...it's all plastic.
2. The brake pedal is metal and has ridges like a Ruffles potato chip...except they are large ridges. I drilled into the trough (low spot) in the ridges and the alum pedal fit nicely although 1 of the 4 holes was drill too close to the edge and I broke through the edge. But the bolt still tightened perfectly and I figured the other 3 bolts will keep it secure.

3. The gas pedal was easy....I left the original pedal in place and just put the aluminum plate over it. In the pedal kit from Circle BMW was a new accelerator pedal but it didn't look at all like the one in my car....so I just drilled the holes into the existing pedal and bolted it on. One item that came in really handy was an old surgical hemostat. I used it to grab the nut on the lower right corner side. The hemostat held the nut as the allen wrench tightened the bolt. Make sure you have a vacuum cleaner handy...lots of metal and plastic debris is generated.

They look great....I didn't get the alum footrest...still on the fence about that one but I thought it would be overkill. (I have alum trim too)

I am kind of liking the hartage pedals at the moment but I am definitely putting some thought into changing out the pedals, steering wheel, and e-brake handles...

No, i think the plastic pedals has enough traction. But they are definitely a nice touch if you have the aluminium trim.
