You're humanizing the ECU. It's much more simple than that. The ECU just needs to be programmed for the changes in airflow caused by the new manifold. Also, the 330 has more valve lift than the 325 so that also needs to be programmed. Just contact Active Autowerke. See if you can arrange something with them. Files can be sent over the internet but you need an OBD to USB cable and software to load the file to the car.

I'll buy any cable if it will get me closer to 330 power
May be you have any link with instructions on how to load 330 firmware to my 325 DME?

Just a little bump from the Z4 section. I did the same on my 3.0i to get closer to a 3.0si .... I wish I had a before after on the same dyno ... But, I feel the increase in power for sure .... racing with C4's is a no problem situation now

A tune will give you a a lot more low end torque. You should be at 200ft-lbs at 2500 rpm.

So just to clarify... the AA tune is optimized for the 325i... but not specifically for the manifold swap?

Just give them a call. They spent some time on this for me. I'm not sure why they don't post it on the website.

Hi Marcelo & everyone.
My car is a 2009 LCI 325i (euro version) 3L engine.
I've checked on RealOEM.com using my VIN & it shows car has N52N engine. Am I correct on this?

If the car has N52N engine, then all the parts listed on the first page of this thread are what I need, correct?

I'm currently living & working in Vietnam. So, how does the tune work for my case?
Just buy it from AA, have it shipped to Vietnam, plug & play? simple as that?

Please advice,
Thanks
Dung

For those interested generalautorecycling has a manifold for an 06 530i for sale for $150. Part number is the same as the 330i part. Not sure if there are any differences.

Hey E90Pilot

Has the manifold swap changed the reliability of your car?

I'm asking because I want to do the swap when warranty is up still have 15,000 miles left. Car is only at 85,000 miles right now.

I would love to do the swap but don't want to do something that will only cause my car to freak out lol.

I love my car and don't plan on selling it at all, it's my first bmw and was a HS graduation gift from the parents two years ago got it with 40K miles but it can use a little boost. .. So this swap would definitely be a great mod for me especially because my dad is a mechanic.

Thanks for any help/advice in advanced

Good morning Guys,
I just wanted to say a quick thank you to e90pilot, issabmw and all the other pioneers who put a lot of time, effort and research into making this project successful.

I am the owner of a 2007 E60 (525i) with the N52B30 Engine and recently completed this mod with great success thanks to the help of a local performance shop and excellent customer support from Viral at Active Autowerke in Miami who re-mapped and coded my ECU.

Dyno results based on my best run and considering a 1.21 correction factor with a Model 248 Dyno, brings me in right around 250hp @ 228ft-Lbs torque.

If anyone is interested in the thread you can find it here:

Cheers and thanks again!

Okay, so my 07 328xi has a 3 stage manifold since it is a California car with the engine VIN number indicator WV53, which indicates a SULEV vehicle, which all came with 3 stage manifolds. Can I tune it?

Well, you can get any car tuned but if you're asking about making it a 330i, then the answer is no. It's got a different combustion chamber design that has a lower compression ratio than the N52. The result is better efficiency but less power. That's why BMW put the 3-stage manifold on it. I'm sure there's a little extra power in there since BMW tuned it for lower emissions. Ask the Active Autowerk folks. They should be able to help you out.

As far as I know, I don't think it will be a problem. If your car has no problem starting now, I don't see why it would have issues with a tune and manifold. AA doesn't mess with idle settings at all I think.

Sweet!!!!!! I'm never on this forum but I told someone I know that it's def possible to make 330 power out of a 325 by doing an intake swap! Turned out I was right!!!!! Thanks for all the detailed hard work and the dyno sheets!

I'm still confused as to how much the actual 3 stage manifold adds power wise.. I'm seeing dyno sheets with 250hp from a 325i.
I'm curious to see a dyny sheet for the same car with a performance exhuast and updated air intake.

Hey everyone, just bought a used 2006 530i intake manifold so I dunno when that will be coming in. I'm driving an 06 325i w/ 6MT and 47,000mi on it. I"m pretty sure my factory warranty is up (dunno how the manifold swap will affect my CPO warranty sadly). The plan is to get my manifold swap and install a AFE intake (hopefully that deal falls through) at LTBMW. Then at some point when I have my money saved up, head over to muirhead MoterWerk in Simi Valley to do my Gintani ECU tune. My contact gavin over there told me once before that with their tune I would be gaining more than stock 330 power so we will see about that. I dunno of any dyno stations near my house but I'll be located up in Merced for a year due to school.

I dunno how far away I will do the ECU tuning from the time I install the manifold, but my question is, should the drivabiliy of the car be a concern for me when all i have done is the manifold swap? I love my car but I don't want it bogging on me when i'm cruising on the highway. And should my gas milage differ before and after the ECU tune with the manifold swap?

Thanks for your help for answering these questions!

Spacemonkey, Your car will drive fine with only the manifold. I'm not sure who told you you can get more than a stock 330 but there is definitely no proof. Everyone's about 5 to 10 whp short of a stock 330. There's still something missing in the tune that BMW has hidden away. Also, I'd lose the AFE intake. It has been shown to lose power due to it's open airbox design. It heatsoaks easily. The stock design is pretty good, but it's quiet.

Francis, remember that not all dyno's are alike. Some measure estimated crank HP, some give more generous numbers, some are conservative. It's really hard to reproduce what actually happens on the road on a dyno. They're notoriously inaccurate because of the associated conditions of a run. My car has shown 218 on one dyno and 209 on another dyno of the same brand and type! Same tune as well. Even the pressure temperature, and humidity were close. The ecu is pretty sensitive to even the smallest change in conditions. But taking all of this into account, there is a gain in power and torque, but it's really hard to know exactly how much.
