decent sub/amp setup?

i'm interested in buying a small sub/amp setup, but nothing big at all.
i don't want to be like those guys in their civics shaking up their trunks, or anything that will rattle my mirrors so i figured a 10 inch sub and an amp would be fine. what brand? how many watts? etc, etc.

Have you considered the SWS-8 upgrade?

In theory yes...but the oem sub enclosures are very small and SWS-8s are known to fit with very little modification. I beleive some people on here have also gotten pioneer 8" woofers to fit. When upgrading the underseat subs you'll experience rattling in the side skirts that's audible outside the car but not inside. This is because the underseat woofer are channeled into sealed chambers in the side skirts. I had this setup for about 2 months run by a JL 500/1. Blew them and went back to stock with a Type-R 12" in the trunk powered by the same JL 500/1. I know you said you didn't want anything too big but the underseat woofers won't hit anything like a 10" or 12" if that's what you're looking for. This is the reason I blew my SWS-8s. I was expecting too much out of them and tried to push them too hard.

While my SWS-8 have never blown and I don't hear a side skirt issue either.

There are a very short list of speakers that can work close to drop in. The Pioneer require major enclosure mod.

The EQ are close to drop in. The Morel and Rainbow take some artfully-crafted rings and don't play sub bass as well as the EQ, although the EQ don't play midbass for squat.

^Might be because I was pushing them hard....thus why they blew lol. But even with the stock woofer turned up all the way, you can hear a slight rattle. I'm surprised you don't have this. I'm also guessing you have a much better setup than what I have and are probably using something else to run really low frequencies and have the SWS-8s set low.

we put one in Ryan's car last weekend, but until his speakers come in and we put the bitone in to reverse the stock eq I wanted to wait to comment. plenty of power and already cleaned up the sound considerably, but there is still the oem top end boost, and he still has the L7 drivers from the alpine kit in. I'm sure once it's all done he'll have a review up.
