Exclamation 37.2 software + new HPFP (943) + Procede = ?

Hi guys,
With all this talk about the new DME software and updated HPFP, I bit the bullet and had my car updated today. It was funny seeing the reaction from the tech who had to dig through my charge pipe and meth lines to get access to the HPFP. Ended up paying a couple hundred bucks for the install. I was thinking about tackling the work myself but the thought of a 3000psi screw up deterred me.

Right off the bat, the car idled smoother than it ever did. I never had a start up problem/long cranking problem so it behaves the same obviously. In valet mode, I did notice that it does feel a bit softer down low (sub 3000rpm). Or could just be my imagination from 65k miles of a high powered tune.

Once I enabled the Procede, things were great again. No difference is boost. Power is solid as ever. No new hidden codes (so far). Quite literally, no difference other than the smoother idle.

On the way home from the dealership I took a datalog:

Everything is golden. More logs to come over the next few days.

Cheers,
Shiv

Good to know. Still on an original pump myself, 3 yrs old, but only 13k miles. No updates planned over here.

At the very least I would make sure it is set to default to valet mode....though with touchy things like programming, I'd just take it out.

Ohh, if they ever knew... BMWUSA must have some kind of reward for Shiv & Terry whereabouts.

I believe this is what happened today
* (Shiv) walking into a BMW dealership and saying "I want a HPFP replacement".

* (Sales Guy) sure we replace it for you. It will be $380 plus labor cost.

* Shiv is then on his laptop in the waiting room on how to improve on the PROcede while he waits for his car.

* Techs and sales guys are all talking together, "Another HPFP failure, when would people stop tuning their cars".

* (BMWUSA) just called and conference all of them saying "There is a bounty for all the tuners. They are costing us over $30 million a year to cover warranty costs. Especially for Shiv and Terry, creators of the most popular tunes for the N54. If you guys ever see them, contact us ASAP and there would be a $10,000 reward".

* They all start shouting, "I'm buying a new car". The other guy is saying "I'm taking my girl shopping". The other guy says "I'm going to the strip joint with all my hommies". One woman says, I'm getting my hair and nails done everyweek if I get that reward".

* Service manger goes to the waiting room to tells Shiv, "Hey man your car is ready".

* Shiv() pays the cashier; says and goes on his way() and all the potential customers there in the lot with a at the end.

* Sales guys is feeling the last seen of the "The Usual Suspects (1995)". Was that the guy that had a $10K bounty on. He goes online and googles this ().

* He goes to the back and himself.

If you are running the latest firmware (with CANclear) feature, you will have to put the Procede into valet mode AND turn off CANclear (set o2 mod to 0%). Or just remove it completely.

lol... and btw, you guys may be surprised to know what I have a very good relationship with BMW NA. Why do you think I've gone to NJ so many times in the last 12 months? Good folks and real car guys. As some of you NJ folks knows, I've even brought some a few people "from the mothership" to my last two East coast meets.

Shiv, I think last time you were here in Feb, I kind of put together that you were looking at the way the new engine was performing. That's why when you started implementing v4, I stated that you must of been spying around BMWUSA.

Very interesting Shiv! I don't doubt what you say one bit, but I'm curious why BMW would be so friendly with you, considering they technically consider your tune to be putting extra stress on the car components, and therefore, bringing on extra warranty claims (seeing almost everyone would remove their units before going in to get something fixed).

What do they have to gain?

Actually we are such a small portion of the 335i market, they could care less

How many 335i's are sold just here in the US??? Maybe a few hundred thousand?? if Shiv sold over 100,000 Procedes, we would see a lot of less of him here on line

But last I checked BMW does have a performance offering...

Shiv since no one else has been playing with this new software, what is your take on it?

My boost levels have been much lower (via my rixx gauge) than pre-update. Several posters have also complained about more lag down low. How does the proceed work with this new software? Note: I am really looking for more technical details here as I am truly curious as to what the hell BMW did to "resolve" the fuel pump failures.

Doesn't the log show boost lagging, compared to pre-software update. Both go WOT at the same time but the boost building profiles are much different.

Nope. One line is Procede boost target (set point) and the other is actual boost. Unlike other piggies, he Procede controls boost independant of the dme. So even if a new dme update changed boost mapping and castrated low end or partial throttle boost/torque, the Procede tune would run exactly the same as it did before the dme update. We saw the writing on the wall last year and predicted that piggybacking the boost control system would not be feasible eventually.
