The bottom line is that the team's cars just aren't up to spec, and the blame has apparently fallen on its technical chief Aldo Costa. He's held the job since 2007, but will now relinquish the role as the team comprehensively restructures its technical department. Rather than hire or promote someone to fill Costa's position, Pat Fry, Luca Marmorini and Carrado Lanzone – the individual heads of the chassis, engine and production departments, respectively – will now report directly to team principal Stefano Domenicali.

Ferrari doesn't afraid of change, how they replace drivers (Alonso for Raikkonen), demoted Chris Dyer....and hired few ex-McLaren guys....

Pat Fry is supposedly well regarded in F1, so let's hope that he can deliver as a TD.

An interesting note - it appears that technical director salaries are in line with (and can exceed) driver's salaries these days! Rumors are that Newey is paid on the order of $10+ million/year.

Keep in mind drivers also get sponsorships and ad revenue (mark webbers milk commercial )

Pretty sure that is only for Newey. One of the reasons that Newey left McLaren was because he wanted more money, and they felt he was getting enough. Think it was $3mil then.

I agree with this - I like Domenicali's personality (he's much more open and talkative than Todt ever was) but he seems to be making error after strategic error over the last few years.

I'd be surprised if he is still around in 2012 if Ferrari does not bounce back and win the title this year (incredibly, incredibly unlikely). The real question is, who is fit to replace him?

Thats not quite true. Before Schumachers 7 year reign over F,1 Ferrari was actually in quite a bad way. Brawn, Schumacher, and Rory Byrne turned that outfit around.

Ross Brawn is not going anywhere, he was part of the deal for Mercedes to take Brawn GP over.

I do believe Brawn was earning in excess of $5m at Ferrari and made a handsome $50m+ from his ownership of Brawn GP.

I think Ferrari have lost the plot a little. Just having Alonso is not going to win them the Championship, they need someone who can lead the technical side of things, lets hope that man is Fry.
