My new '07 335i - good and bad (hpfp)

My name is Jimmy and two weeks ago I bought my first Bimmer - 2007 335i 6MT CPO 31K miles. The first two weeks were great... love the car, love the drive, love the forum, thinking about Dinan flash, reading up on some small external mods like the blackline lights, etc.

Unfortunately, the 2nd day I had the car, the CEL came on. I pulled over, turned the car off and back on, and the light went away. I researched on these forums and read all about the HPFP problem but didn't think much about it until today when the car went limp and after about 1/2 mile went really limp... I literally barely pulled into a nearby parking lot when it stalled completely (scary!) and had looong unsuccessful cranks to get it started. Towed to dealership.

SA immediately said HPFP is the problem and "will install new version of HPFP with new software that will fix the problem". I've read the great HPFP FAQ, but still curious -- will the new HPFP (943) + latest software actually fix the problem or is it simply a replacement that will surely break again or is the jury still out? Anything special I should request from the dealer?

So a rough start for my new ride, but I still love it... thanks in advance for any help.

I think we don't know for sure yet if the new hpfp will be immune to this problem. But the general consensus as to the software is that is just lowers the stress on the hpfp so that it takes a little bit longer to fail

Well, turns out it wasn't the HPFP... it was something much worse caused by bad gasoline. See the new thread and help me over there:

It's anyone's guess, but take heart, it's not a lemon so if they're fixing it you should be good to go.

I just had my first engine malfunction light after 12000kms. The yellow warning only comes on some of the time when I start up the car. Also longer cranks than usual.

The dealership can't get me in for a few weeks, so is it safe to drive on reduced power with that error?

VERY IMPORTANT

Guys please report the HFPF issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association..Here is the link.

https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/Complaint.cfm

The more complaints they receive the more likely that they could force BMW to issue a recall and fix this problem once and for all.

There is also an online petition to get our voices heard about the HPFP problems with our cars..PLEASE spread this around..get as many people to sign as possible.. I just did

http://www.petitiononline.com/fixpump/petition.html

Also this problem is finally starting to get some media attention so we need to make a stink to the rest of the world and not just here on the forums. Check this article out...
