Thumbs up Realistically, what's the best tune for me?

So mechanically, my 335i is almost bone stock. Only engine mods done is a BMS dual cone intake and muffler/resonator delete. As much as I would like to go all out and do downpipes/chargepipe/BOV/intercooler/meth kit etc etc... realistically I know I never will. So with all that aside, what's the best tune going to be for me? I really like the capabilities of JB4, but think it's probably overkill for my application and it's a bit pricey if I'm not going to be using it to the max. Opinions? Thanks

JB4 is the cheapest out of the major tunes, so that'd probably be ideal for you if you don't want to spend a whole lot of money.

Well, out of the tunes most people use on this forum (Procede, JB4, COBB, GIAC), the JB4 is the cheapest.

You can find one on the private classified section for around 350 I believe.

I don't know if anything is cheaper than JB4. Cobb and Proceed are about the same price as each other and JB4 is cheaper than both.

It boils down to preference. Do you want the flexibility and user controls that the piggy backs offer or do you want the ease of install "set it and forget it" mentality that a flash provides (cobb, dinan, giac etc etc)

I lol'd here too...

JB4 is the way to go...sounds like $$ is a factor and for the price you can't go wrong.

And definitely not overkill lol...
If you want a crappy little 30hp tune you can always get the Perf. Stage I from BMW lol and that's still more than a JB4

I guess you can say that the best bang for buck is the JB4. Given that you said that you think it is "overkill" but also mistaken about it being pricey.. looks like you should just go JB4 then.

Flash tunes are always the safest though as it is a proper DME calibration instead of intercepting signals.

There's a stickied thread comparing all of the tunes but do your own research

I've run all of the tunes, and currently run the JB4. As much as I've bashed it in the past, it works GREAT with the latest G5 advancements. OP, if you want to get a JB4, I'd suggest waiting until this thing becomes available.

The original JB stage 1 and 2?

Well sounds like JB4 is still the best bet, is it pretty user friendly? (Im terrible with electronics) ..guess I'll have to do a little saving (my wallet is still hurting from my Forgestar order)

Seriously, do a search on this forum. Have you looked at the first sticky?

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374508

I didn't start a thread to get assistance. I did a lot of reading and made my own decision on which tune to purchase.

IF you want the cheapest tune, buy a JB4. Its not cheap b/c quality, it's just cheap b/c BMS makes great products at a great price. The JB4 has different stages, allows gauge hijacking and probably has the best customer service with Terry (he regularly answers emails from his iPhone).

IF you want something simple to use, buy a COBB tune. All you have to do is download the maps you want off COBB's website, update + plug the AccessPORT into the OBD port (in the driver footwell), select the map you want (right now w/ the intake you'd be Stage 1) and flash your DME. You'll never have to open the hood (perfect for someone who gets intimidated easily) and nothing against the others, but the COBB is by far the EASIEST tune to install.

There is a difference between the two of them like some1 else mentioned. The COBB is a flash tune while the JB4 is a plug-in system. If you want additional info about either one, just ask.

^That threads a nice starting point, but it's def slanted towards giving info on the plug-in tunes (JB4/PROcede) and not exactly 100% accurate w/ the COBB tune.

+1. It's on sale and comes standard with CPS offsetting. I haven't tried any of the other tunes, but after doing a whole bunch of research, I decided on the PROcede because you get big power with stock like drivability, all within safe operating limits of the N54. I paid extra for the peace of mind. Now that it's on sale and you can get one for about the same price as a JB4, it seems like a no-brainer.

You should not get a tune, as you clearly have not done any research. If you had, you wouldn't be asking.

There are hours worth of threads supporting each tune, from which you should be able to make a decision based on your needs/wants.

Do research first, and you shouldn't feel the need to pollute an already filthy forum with more nonsense "What XXXX should I get" threads.

Also, check out other forums. This one is composed of mostly PROcede supporters.
