C/D takes the 328i Sport Wagon for a spin

Quote:
Extolling the virtues of station wagons is something we at C/D love to do; after all, they combine sedan-like driving dynamics and fuel efficiency with increased utility. But we have to face the reality that the wagon is as endangered in the United States as it’s ever been, and our raves likely serve as eulogies more than anything else.

...

Dynamically, the wagon is every bit as rewarding to drive as the sedan. Both feel solid and display the same great body control and harmony among the primary controls. The steering, handling, and ride feel exactly as good as a 328i with a trunk.

...

Consider this one of your last chances, America. If we don’t start buying 328i Sport Wagons, they too will go the way of the 5-series wagon—and the Country Squire.

I would've bought one if they made a 335i version, or a 330i version in the past.

i'm in the market for a replacement for my X3, and i'd consider the wagon, but it's just prohibitively expensive. bring on the 3GT

The 5GT is priced above the 5 sedan. I don't think that the 3GT will net any savings over the 3 series wagon, if that's what you were waiting on.

no, absolutely not. i was just commenting on the demise of the 328 SportWagon vs. the 3GT. i'm in the market now, not in 2 years. i'd go for the Wagon if it were even available at a dealership, but even that's hard to find.

The M-Sport wagons look amazing pretty sweet IMO. Almost makes me want to trade in my E46 wagon for one cept the 47k price tag a bit up there considering my wagon was almost 10k cheaper @_@ ( somewhere around there, 04 was a few years back lol)

I love wagons but I would buy the 335d way before the 328 wagon for this money. 36+mpg highway for the same money and tons more power - go 335d.

If your not picky, you can probably scoop up a wagon on a dealer's lot at a deep discount...

The wagon handles quite well and is practical, but unfortunately it does not sell as well as the X3 and X5 trucks.

Mine was $40,204 + tax and tags - $500 back for BMWCCA. I thought it was spendy at the time, but there weren't too many station wagons built with manual transmissions.

$47,895 is silly.

My dealer had one for so long they started using it as a service-loaner, I got it once, loved it...

List is under $37K. This one has nav, M Sport, metallic paint, keyless access, power seats, etc. It's loaded.

It seems that I will be replacing the wifes 530xiT with a used 535xiT or possibly go to the dark side A6 Avant or E class Estate!!!

A 335d would have been a very noce option but based on our numbers in NA it made no sense I guess!

Speaking of handing, it weights more than sedan... Otherwise I'd have it.

The only issue with the wagon is that engine option. Let it have the same engines as the sedan and it would be a big seller.

Drop some of the mandatory options and lower the base price, that will help too.

I just ordered a 328i sportwagon and decided to get just the rear wheel drive. In my opinoin all wheel drive isnt really necessary provided you have a dedicated set of snow tires. I am in Vegas right now and we dont get snow like in the north so I just went with rear wheel drive. Besides how often will you drive the car on snow covered roads? Maybe 10 to 20% of the time? It all depends on your needs also. In my case if it gets to bad for a rear wheel drive with real snow tires on it I probably shouldnt be driving in it.

47K im so jealous for a new car lucky amerikans. Here an 325i e91 2nd hand with 100k Km/s is 30.000 euro.

But indeed i think with you spoiled americans you need to have to order an 335i. But they dont get it there too bad... I really love wagons much more than sedans.
