I dont see a car picking up 10mph trap speed with just a sticky tire. The Ford mags are notorious for lower ET's and higher traps than evrybody else. Theres some cheating going on there.

I have noticed this was always the case with the Ford mags as well. I Know they might have the right people driving them as well though.

I think that car had a tune, xpipe, exhaust, some suspension mods as well as tires

Just curious as to why anyone wouldn't believe a vid that clearly shows the ET?

At 1:02 into the vid they say the car is stock, at 1:22 the only mods they list before the next run are drag tires and skinnies. They gained 9-10mph on the big end with just tires. I was not questioning the accuracy of the track timers but the modifications to the car. Been around the drags for many years and you dont see a car gain 10mph with just tires. Dont see anything listed for those runs as far as x-pipe, exhaust, susp or a tune, do you?

I didn't watch the entire vid, but I'm pretty sure it's the same one posted on a mustang board I moderate upon. The op for the thread i'm referring to posted the mod list of the car

lemme go double check so I don't post incorrect information

The trap speed is inline with the dyno number. What's so weird?
Maybe the guy took it easy on the first run. 106-7mph at 370whp on mustang dyno doesn't make sense anway.

I read some comments after the vid and I think it has more than wheels/tires.

I do think it is a great candidate for people on a modest budget.

So, you think they soft pedaled the car to get a baseline #? OK.

Then their list of mods done(as per their own video) to the car are intentionally decieving. Thats pretty much what I was getting at.

I agree with you though, the car is going to be a great step up from the previous GT and a car to be reckoned with at the track.

Ford mags also got the Camaros to go faster than anyone else, too.

But sticky tires will help TREMENDOUSLY, especially on a car with traction control. Simply put, the reason the GT500 was not much faster than the normal GT was that the street tires simply couldn't put the power down. Sticky tires made a world of difference there, too.

The 5.0 has more power than the stock non-drag tires can handle, so it can't USE all it's power in stock form. Add sticky tires, and suddenly you CAN use all the power.

We see the same thing in autocrossing. A set of DOT-legal race tires and you can chop 3-4 seconds off a lap with no other changes. That's HUGE.

Garage List
2009 E92 M3  [0.00]
That car definitely isn't bone stock, as it says right at the beginning of the video that it's custom tuned by John Lund. It sounds like it has some exhaust work done, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could eek out those numbers with just a tune and drag radials. John Lund can the tune the wheels off of just about any Mustang set-up .

Went back and checked the other thread I was referencing: according to the FB page of the vid maker or tuner (didn't specifically say which one), the car had the mods I posted earlier.

I don't do FB, so if anyone wants to confirm that fact please do so to clear up the mud

Well you can hear the difference in exhaust between the runs. It sounds stock the first run, and then it is loud as all hell after that.

Yes, sticky tires improve traction greatly and will low ET's by at least several tenths and a larger reduction on road circuits but they will not effect trap speeds nearly as much. A sticky tire will not gain a car 10mph in a 1/4 mile run.

Are you talking about dyno number? or track number?

How else would you explain it?

The mustang already makes 395rwhp on dynojet, that's comparable to 370whp on mustang dyno which SHOULD translate into ~115-117mph.

Regardless of the numbers argument, the Mustang GT is becoming a real performance bargain.

Dyno numbers are worthless for stuff like this. You've got no idea what kind of corrections were being used, the DA at the time, what kind of fuel....the list just goes on and on, and to then try and take them and translate from one type to the other? There's so much margin for error it's pointless.

The bottom line is the cars have been trapping 109-110MPH, and tires don't make a difference like that.
These guys have always done everything under the sun to eek out every bit of 1/4 mile potential, and it's not even close to what people will be seeing in the real world.

If you push 370whp on a TYPICAL mustang dyno, with full weight, a mustang SHOULD trap over 115mph.

Now if this was a high reading mustang dyno, or calibrated such that it reads high, and THEN trapped 110mph, then the dyno becomes useless and is not a true representation of the majority of mustang dynos out there.

I was referring to a generally believed "parameter".

Im not going to debate dyno #'s because there are way to many variables, as Jeremy said. Heres a couple of drag times of a respected site that are likely more 'real world' than dyno runs by companies who make a living out of advertising big hp/tq #'s.
You can even use Dragtimes handy/dandy calculator(go to tools) to work the #'s to get a ballpark hp # . After some more dynos come out I'll bet the #'s wont be nearly as high as 450+bhp.
