This will need to remain a tech support-related thread, we cannot answer sales-related questions on the forum - sorry.

Please PM instead me if you have questions on pricing.

Tom,

Did you try this retrofit and coding on some early production E92/E93 ?
The M3 shown in your post has the NFRM module which should support the LCI tail ligths, but I am wondering if this coding could also work for the FRM module.

I haven't had a chance to try it myself, but I am afraid this might not be possible to code it correctly without replacing the ECU.
Correct me if you already tested it.

Thanks,
Patryk

Patryk,

Earliest build date run through the shop would be 3/08 (M3), the ECU is not touched one bit during the coding process.

So that's still NFRM IIRC and I know you don't use a hammer to code cars

If I could suggest I would check how the coding works for the FRM as there will be people with early production cars interested in getting a set from you and having their cars coded. Just an advise...

Good luck !

It should not be an issue since we're coding and not replacing modules.

As soon as we have an earlier production e92 come through the doors, I'll update the thread for verification. I doubt there would be any issue as we would have heard reports of BMW replacing FRMs when updates were provided on their end.

That is pretty close to me in Ashburn. Can you PM me the shop's name?

Resistors will do more damage than good in the long run. Load equalizers (resistors in aluminum heatsinks) have been known to cause LCM damage in past e46 models.

It's simply not worth the risk, especially at what temperatures these heat up at under use. We avoid them at all costs - the primary reason we chose the coding route instead.

Even though FRM was replaced with NFRM at some production stage it doesn't have to be replaced when a dealership does the software update.
They both are supported but software updates that are being developed by BMW are mostly for NFRM.

When you are coding an ECU you are only changing values of different variables that are stored in its memory. If the ECU doesn't have those variables in its coding data you are not able to code it successfully.
In some cases it is enough just to program the ECU with the latest software which updates the coding data with new variables. But as I said previously BMW would have to come up with a software update for FRM to support the LCI tail lights retrofit.
I don't think that e.g. the 2007 FRM module can have the coding data for 2011 LCI tail lights.

I guess we are going too much into technical details...

Let us know when you have any early production E92/93.

As we spoke in PM, there are other issues going on with your vehicle as the autologic cannot even get in CIP for some reason, which has nothing at all to do with the taillights. - this would prevent ANY control module from being programmed.

autologic UK will be going over your session logs to see where the problem lies.

So, once I get this code done...will it survive future updates @ dealer? Just want to make sure I do not lose what you do when I get an update later. I tried to figure it out reading through the thread, but it got too technical for me to know for sure.

Thanks!

If you think all would work, maybe can give it a go with my Sept 05 production 330i.

Have you got pricing and details for both the 2011 LCI rear lamps and headlights conversion?

Tom,

I can't wait. I'm moving to SoCal in a few months. Can't wait to stop by and get this done.

What are your thoughts about keeping the inner on the E90 and just replacing the outer?

I would recommend replacing the entire set for an evenly matched look.
