Uncle put in Mobil 1 10w30, effects?
So I am away in New York for 2 weeks (just arrived yesterday), and I just found out that my uncle took the liberty to change my oil and he replaced it with Mobil 1 10w30, what are the effects that it will have on my car? To my understanding, It's not BMW approved and I wanted to know what effect it will have on my car? The car is in California and it's a 335. Thanks!

I had the same thing happen to about 50k miles ago on my car. You should be fine but just change it out ASAP! I drove almost 4k with mobile 10w-30 but I dont recomend it. It should be fine like I said just change it out ASAP.

That it meets very few standards and individual specifications would make me wary, as would the fact that it seems to be a big box store item (and the pricing pressure they put on their suppliers is relentless). But that is just an opinion. I would change it out. Not in a panic, but fairly soon. But that is just another opinion. Last edited by 742; 05-31-2010 at 03:35 PM. |

Ahh okay, thanks everyone! I'll have to do it when I get back in two weeks. At least I'm feeling a bit more comfortable that it's not a HUGE concern.

Just change it out before 4000-5000 miles. Nothing to worry about.

My car got out of warranty last year, so I had to change the oil at my own expense. I used Mobil 1 10w-30 and it's been fine thus far. I plan on changing the oil at 5k mile intervals.
I didn't know this oil selection was such a hot subject for BMWs, so I'll use the Mobil 1 0w-40 in the future. The 10w-30 I've had in the car didn't blow up the engine just yet, so it doesn't seem like a big deal since my warranty is already over anyway. |
