Uncle put in Mobil 1 10w30, effects? - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

So I am away in New York for 2 weeks (just arrived yesterday), and I just found out that my uncle took the liberty to change my oil and he replaced it with Mobil 1 10w30, what are the effects that it will have on my car? To my understanding, It's not BMW approved and I wanted to know what effect it will have on my car? The car is in California and it's a 335. Thanks!

I had the same thing happen to about 50k miles ago on my car. You should be fine but just change it out ASAP! I drove almost 4k with mobile 10w-30 but I dont recomend it. It should be fine like I said just change it out ASAP.

IMO the simple fact is that no one knows. The only hard piece of information is that it does not meet the BMW specification.

That it meets very few standards and individual specifications would make
me wary, as would the fact that it seems to be a big box store item (and the pricing pressure they put on their suppliers is relentless). But that is just an opinion.

I would change it out. Not in a panic, but fairly soon. But that is just another opinion.

Ahh okay, thanks everyone! I'll have to do it when I get back in two weeks. At least I'm feeling a bit more comfortable that it's not a HUGE concern.

Just change it out before 4000-5000 miles. Nothing to worry about.

My car got out of warranty last year, so I had to change the oil at my own expense. I used Mobil 1 10w-30 and it's been fine thus far. I plan on changing the oil at 5k mile intervals.

I didn't know this oil selection was such a hot subject for BMWs, so I'll use the Mobil 1 0w-40 in the future.

The 10w-30 I've had in the car didn't blow up the engine just yet, so it doesn't seem like a big deal since my warranty is already over anyway.
