Lexus CPO program is a joke!
My buddy has a CPO'd Lexus 07 IS350 with approx 75,000 miles on it. Followed the regular maintenance schedule and all that at an independent shop for the last year. Coming back from a road trip, his car gave no extended warning signs, he heard a noise and began to pull over and it died on him. Car was sent to a dealer and even though the dealer identified that the water pump failed, leaked coolant, and damaged the engine, Lexus is saying that its wear and tear and will NOT fix his car under warranty. He now has to shell out $18K to get his car repaired!!! :ugh: He has been going back and forth between the dealer, Extra Care (warranty division at Lex) and Lexus HQ. Lexus refuses to budge. Any ideas what he can do? I posted here to get the most responses and if anyone has ever been in a similar situation.

BMW CPO is no better.
I need new front strut bushings (thrust arm bushings, as BMW calls them), top radiator hose and a cracked windshield washer fluid container replaced. Got quoted $1,300. Apparently all of it is regular wear not covered by warranty. All of these parts together are about $260 online.

Had something similar happen with my clutch. I claimed it was beyond normal wear and tear, based on how catastrophically it failed. BMW refused to pay for a long time, I found quite a few examples of the same thing happening that had been posted on line. Printed them out and took them into the dealership, they eventually agreed to pay for half of it.

WTF. my ex had a IS250 and they replaced the water pump and thermostat under CPO warranty. Go to a different dealer. However if the car was overheating and he continued to run it and did not notice it over heating is possibly could be at fault?

18K for a water pump replacement! Ill do it for $9K! There is no way they can charge 18K, unless he overheated the motor and cracked the block or something. That toyota V6 isnt worth $18K

Is the car even worth $18K?

we just got my wife an is250 and had a very pleasant buying experience, best one so far. I did read about the pump issues on a few, doesn't seem that wide spread. I have always taught her to watch temp gauges.

most dealerships will do that when you fix your car elsewhere (and it is obvious) whether CPO or regular.
Why not just fix at the stealership?

it sounds like the are punishing the person for driving with no water in the engine. Really they did not notice the water coming out on the road while driving or the over temp indicator.
I would beat that is the pump failure and that was the only thing wrong they would have fixed it. The fact they destroyed the engine is the reason they are refusing to fix it. |

If the engine is damaged most likely they won't pay for the repairs..

Time to buy a new car. Really sucks, but either turn it into something custom and drop an engine in there (2JZ :P ) or part it out and sell everything. Then go buy a new car. Unfortunately, sometimes sh*t happens. Sucks for your buddy though.
