8 channels.

Now use one 4-channel for front mid/tweet and rear mid/tweet, one for the front midbasses, and use the ms-8 internal power for the center and rear channels. I assume your 4/ tweeter have crossovers and that your center and rear can run off 16w.

Alternately, you can run one 4 ch to front mid/tweeter Nd front midbass, the other to rear and center, leaving one unused.

I would need to know more about your gear. But the first plan is how it often gets done.
Thank you VP, I really appreciate your help, believe me, MS-8 isn't even sold in Costa Rica...

My gear is:
BMW HU
Technic's harnesses (I think he sells them here too)
MS-8
2 Tru Technology 4 channels amps
1 Clarion 1500w Monoblock
4 Jennert Woofers (150w)
2 Jehnert 4's mids (30w)
2 kicker 4's mids (rear) (30w)
2 tweeters
1 JL 12W7
That's it.

Let me see, if I can understand what you just wrote

Channels 1/2: front tweeters and mids
Channels 3/4: all four woofers
Channel 5: Center speaker
Channel 6: Subwoofer via Y-cable
Channels 7/8: rear deck mids
did I get it?

I think he was using 1 channel per speaker in order to use the MS-8 crossover capabilities, but, he ran out of channels

"Now use one 4-channel for front mid/tweet and rear mid/tweet, one for the front midbasses, and use the ms-8 internal power for the center and rear channels. I assume your 4/ tweeter have crossovers and that your center and rear can run off 16w
"

So he should use one amp for the front & rear 4' mids + tweeters?
And the second amp just for the woofers?
Run the center channel and what else from the MS-8?

Noobie question:
Can I run an active crossover with this set up?, or do I have to use the Jehnert crossover?

I really appreciate this, I feel like finally I've come to the right place (I know it sounds corny, but after 3 weeks with no car )...

If you want to go active, you would need to ditch the rears. If you use the Jehnert xovers you can keep them.

The MS-8 just went on sale a few months ago. We all had to figure it out sometime. I hate when pros get paid to be ignorant.

, I hate it too... I mean, I'm the one looking for help while my "installer" tells me he is dumbfounded by the MS-8

VP, I really appreciate this, I can ditch the rears, no problem. Would you please tell me how the connections would go on the MS-8 for an active crossover.

Taking a wild guess, I would say:

Front mid tweet 2 or 4???

Front midbass 2 or 4???

Center (1)

Sub (1 with a RCA Y splitter)

BTW, should the Center Channel, 4' mids and tweeters be xover and amplified by the MS-8 internal amp?

Ou should he use the TRU amps?

NO, don't ditch the rears! You will lose an important feature of L7!

CH1&2: Front mids/tweeters using Jehnert x-overs
CH3&4: Jehnerts midbasses in front doors
CH5: Center (buy an L7 or HiFi (dependling on your system) tweeter from BMW and add it, trust me!)
CH6&7: Connect OEM speakers in rear doors and rear deck in parallel or series. Parallel if they are 4ohm (HiFi), series if they are 2ohm (Logic7).
CH8: Sub

Turn the x-overs on your amps off and let MS-8 do it all!

I think my car doesn't have logic 7, it has the HI-FI system with 7 speakers.
It only has speakers in the rear deck, nothing on rear doors.

- If you have mids and tweeters combined on chnls 1&2, what's your Xover parameter for them?
- I do have an extra L7 tweeter, but how do you Xover it with the center speaker? (same as with the jehnerts?

Which speakers should be powered by the MS-8 and which by the amps?

Stand corrected... lately I have seen some installs in forums that are mentioning my harnesses when they are not.

I completely understand my friend, I would do the same as you did, you are within ur rights to protect your product from misrepresentation. I came to this forum as per member Nelson29's advise.

Glad I did!

Oh, I didn't know that. I'm waiting for my replacement MS-8. Do I HAVE to run the rears in series with my Logic 7? Will they be too (relatively) loud in parallel?

Thanks.

Weird bug. Two 2 ohm loads paralleled is 1 ohm. 0 ohm is a "dead short". 1 and 0 ate really close. Check ms8 manual.

BTW, twice the cone area at half the power is the same SPL.

Hmm, probably not; the issue was that all of the speaker level outputs were working but none of the RCA's was.

Interesting fail. The preamp out comes out of te DSP and drives the amp ic. So the output was working. I assume there is a preamp ic... I haven't seen that failure yet.

But we have seen too many failures. I'm unhappy with the ms8 reliability wise.

I have no trouble with my unit. I thought I had some issues with the first one, and returned it, but it turns out I am an idiot and I mistook the RCA inputs as outputs...

Kdarcia,

The Jehnert passive network takes care of the x-over between the mids and tweeters. You just tell the MS8 the highpass frequency of the set, which should be in the range of 150 to 200 hz.

I believe the l7 tweeter will plug right into the connector on the factory midrange. There is a capacitor wired to the l7 tweeter which acts like a high pass crossover so the speaker set will just need to be high passed like the door speakers. I would recommend 200 hz.

You can run the rear speakers off the MS8 and also the center but if you have a free amp channel I would use it for the center, while being careful not to give it too much juice.

JBL told me it would be ok to run in parallel (knowing they were 2 ohm...) while they have told others to run them in series. I would say go with series, to be on the safe side. go with parallel at your own risk!

Hey Kalgoss,
Thank you for all the help, I finally switched installers, got me a Rockford licensed one (didn't know those existed tbh), he took the car in yesterday... called me this morning telling me the car is ready , I gave him all the feedback you guys gave me and he told it was very helpful, also, he told me he had to re-wire all the speakers because all the connections were wrong, that being the reason my car didn't sound properly

I have to go and pick it up today, I will update after I get the car!
