I have it down in there. Fits with rcas on one side. Not sure about both. Could always buy some 90s at radio shack

I've been messing with my ms8 for a few hours, but it seems no matter what I do the mids are distorted. The bass and treble is fine.

I have my fronts setup as 2 way. I've set the crossover between the underseats and mids everywhere from 110-350hz the higher I set it the better it sounds, but it's still not very good. I've been calibrating with the car on since the remote wire I'm using only switches on when the cars on. I'm thinking that might be the problem and I am going to try calibrating with the car off tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem, sorry for the long post.

Since your car is a 2006 325, I am guessing that you are powering stock HiFi speakers with the MS-8 amp power?

Why aren't you using the correct remote wire?

I actually have logic 7. I tapped into the homelink fuse for my remote wire.

I got it sounding decent it turns out I had the bass turned up a little. I had turned it down but I was playing a cd at the time and I guess the bass setting is separate from cd to aux mode.

Anyways the only thing I'm having trouble with now is setting the crossover between the underseats and mids. I had it at 115 and it sounded pretty good. Anyone using stock logic 7 speakers, what are your crossovers set at?

I would seriously set that at 200 @ 24dB/octave.

There's a remote wire behind the head unit. It's also at the antenna amp in the headliner inside the 3rd brake light housing.

Thanks I fixed the remote wire issue already. I tried the crossover at 150hz @ 24db/octave it sounds much better than before I will try 200 now.

150 Hz 24dB/oct is the best setting for the L7 speakers with MS-8 power. If you use aftermarket amps (with L7 speakers), raise the xover to 200 - 250 Hz.

I just got done messing with it and everything but the mids sounds great. I am getting quite a bit of distortion out of the mids. I have no idea what to do to fix that.

. Fair question. Think my center (and the ms-8 amp) would be happier not playing to 200hz

Ok so I figured out it's my underseats that are distorting they distort no matter what frequencies I have them playing. I eliminated most of the distortion by setting the eq for 200hz at -10db its probably not the best solution, but it'll work for now. So I guess the next step is an aftermarket amp, new midbass drivers, or both. I was thinking about just getting a JL xd600/6.

How do you have them amped? Does the distortion go away when you switch processing to "off"?

I have them powered by the ms8 each on a separate channel turning off processing or logic 7 doesn't help.

Not surprised. You need an amp.

That's what I figured. Good to hear from someone else though. I think it would help if the underseats were 2 ohm then theyd be getting a little more power. I think I'm going to go with a JL xd600/6 since I'm planning on upgrading the speakers in the future. Thanks for all the help so far.

So after reading this thread....and the giant one over on DIYMA, It seems no one ever really got to the bottom of the midbass issue. Im curious what the current consensus is on why the MS-8 doesnt like the E92. Technic and VP started to dig into back on page 4 or 5 but it didnt go anywhere.....

Ive got an MS-8 in my E92 running the stock L7 speakers, an amp on the stock underseats, and a sub in the trunk.

My experience was the same as the others outlined in this thread, I spent the last month trying every conceivable configuration, RTA, and about a million calibration sweeps in persuit of "Andy's target curve" and although the midbass would vary depending on how things were set up, it never really sounded quite right (and RTA agreed, midbass hole)....

Ultimately the fix was simple, I did what Technic did way back at the start of this and just turned up the gain (post calibration) on my underseat woofers.....problem solved. (kaigoss's work around worked too, but had a couple minor side effects)

Although it worked I just cant seem to get my head around why....When Andy W says that the calibration should leave us with "his" curve, and it should sound good, I believe him, the guy knows his stuff, BUT something seems to be different with the E92, something seems to cause the MS-8 algorithm to go awry....

Many theories have been thrown out but I haven't seen much come of them......im just trying to see if we can get that conversations started back up!

By the way...now that its all sorted out....it sounds shockingly good

I'm doing an install, hopefully today, on a 128 (e82).

When you say you turned up the gain, I assume that was via the config utility on the computer? How much did you increase it?

What was Kaigoss's workaround and side effects?

no, my underseat woofers are on a separate amp, not powered by the the MS-8, so I turned up the amps gain, "Technic" talks about it on page 5 (I think). If you are not using a separate amp you can always just turn up the midbass frequencies on the EQ but I found that to be a messy solution.....had a hard time getting it to sound right as the adjustments made on the eq near the crossover points will "bleed" over a bit above and below the crossover point to the other speakers while changing the gain on the underseat speakers ONLY affects those speakers.

The issue I had with kaigoss's workaround is that since the sub is taken out of the calibration I got some slightly uneven bass response down low that required a little EQ, also adding in the extra crossovers caused some phase issues in my configuration so I had to reverse phase after implementing it.....basically every time I calibrated I had to do some rewiring....got pretty old after about the 20th time... But it did work....

Now that said, you are doing your install in a 1 series, I dont know that I have heard of anyone having the mid bass issue in that car. Ive only seen it mentioned in 3 series cars

That's awesome. I hope it's true. I will share my results.

I assume that the midbass issue is not only audible but shows up on an RTA measurement?
