Same reason they're changing the data plans, too. If you buy a 4G, you lose your $30 unlimited data plan.

Here's my question...can you use existing accessories (car chargers, for example)? We already know that based on the new shape, the old docks probably won't fit. :P

I don't know about "almost every new phone", but recent headliners from other manufacturers are just as impressive. I think people are just suffering from shock that Apple would release a device with more on the "impressive feature" list than "features failed to implement" list.

Not true, provided you have an older iPhone and the unlimited data plan. The one thing that appears to be impossible is combining the grand-fathered unlimited plan with the $15/mo tethering plan.

Accessories are a big money maker, especially since Apple sells so many of them themselves. I would be surprised if they made the phone backwards compatible to its predecessor's accessories.

It *is* true. You can't match a now nonexistent data plan with a new phone. You misunderstood what I said. Get a 4G = unlimited data gone on that line.

I think a lot of people (manufacturers included) that a list of great features isn't everything. It's implementation, ease of use, friendliness, attractiveness, etc..

What's the difference between an IPhone and most other Smartphones? Anyone can pick it up and learn how to use its features. Of course, you might be somewhat tech savvy but the average person isn't. There's a reason why a lot of older people can just use a MAC as opposed to a PC. The same thing applies here.

In ways, it is like Linux. It's great. The desktop product is pretty good too, but you aren't going to see it at most companies other than deployed to very tech savvy employees (see Google).

Semi-pertinent side note: I am in IT so I do have a background on such things.

They're still working out tethering with ATT unless I'm mistaken. It's been years...
