You might want to check your battery for this.

My wife's 325i wouldn't start one day, that morning it was giving a battery warning indicator. Anyway, I drove over to give her a jump, when I opened the battery compartment cover, the electronics connected to the positive terminal were severely melted / cracked. Car had 6000 miles on it. Dealer fixed it with an updated part, supposedly the first few (hundred?) cars that came off the line had this problem.

Lesson: Even the battery compartment cover was partially melted. You all may want to visually inspect your battery for early signs of trouble before you get stranded / burned alive, especially if you purchased your car early after release.

Here you go. Not the best quality, had to use my camera phone (SE K750) and it's dusk outside.

Thanks KillDork

Im guessing your car is Left hand drive, with our cars the brake masterpump sits there and of course the other side has the ECU, so no space for the battery up front in RHD versions

Did you make that up?

The 3 series compact has its ass chopped off, there is no battery compartment left back there to put it in.

Disagree. Weight distribution is the reason. If it were safety, then why are 99% of cars still putting the battery up front?

No. They don't "leave it in the front".

They would much rather have it in the rear if there was actually space for it, but since there is not they have to put it in the front.

Unless we are not talking about a compact.
