TPM question and aftermarket wheels (e92)
Those who have aftermarket wheels on their e92, are you driving w/out the sensors inside the rim? Are you having problems w/traction?
I'm just waiting on parts from the dealer and was wondering w/me driving around w/out the sensors could this effect my car in the future w/steering, thanks? |

The tire sensor simply monitors the tire pressure, which comes in handy with vehicles equipt with run flat tires.
If you remove the monitor, the outcome will be a light on the dash and an obnoxious series of chimes everytime you start your car. |

Yep. I usually tell my customers, if they have a chance, just get their OEM/stock TPMS sensors switched over to their new wheels.
Although, for some people, they rather just buy new ones from us. In which case, we offer them for $250 with our wheel purchases, for a set of four. Hope that answers your question.

Can you do this yourself? How can you tell what kind of sensor it is? I have an 07 Canadian 328i, apparently some have the old sensor and some have the new one like mentioned above?

Look at your valve stems. If they are metal you have sensors. If not metal, you don't hace sensors. Check out Tire Rack's website for a complete explanation on sensors.

some people want the sensors and some don't, its pretty expensive so some people just let it be
you can install them on most wheels, I just wish they were black instead of silver though:

I guess that US cars come standard with TPMS. Euro/Asia cars may be different though...
I just changed my stock rims to iForged and found out that my car didn't come with TPMS, luckily... |
