2009 E92 nav issue

I recently just purchased a 2009 3281 xdrive coupe with nav. My last car was an 06 Acura RL with nav. I love this car and everything about it but he nav!! I was wondering if its just my car or not the navigation does not take the most timely ways at all. I live in buffalo so its not way out in the woods and it will take me bizarre ways to my destinations basically its turning a 20 min trip in a 30-40 mins. I have unchecked all the avoid tolls highway etc. my Acura and even the car before that the infinity all would use the same directions and had no problems.
PS its also stuck in night mode no matter if it is checked or not.
Please help

Thanks.

there are multiple routing options, it can be confusing at times.

Once you get it up and running fiddle with it for a bit. Once you get used to it, it really makes sense.
