similar thing happened to me when I was about 15, riding my BMX the chain came off and I bent down to put it back on, except my instinct was to pedal forward to help the chain, BAD mistake! luckily only two fingers got caught around the sprocket I had to pedal backwards to remove them!, and ride to my aunties as they hurt like f**k, didn't damage my fingers just two little holes through my nails, i'm 40 now and no signs of lasting damage but i'll never do it again
