Have any of you experienced excessive rattle or annoying sounds of the car with higher mileage? I noticed that my 2007 335 was quiet as can be at 36,000 miles, but my 2008 M3 was rattly at 24,000. I am now in a 2011 E92 M3 and it has 5,000 miles on it and doing better than the 2008 sound wise. I am hoping it holds together because I would rather pay for occasional repairs then put up with rattles that can't be found or fixed!!!

W00t! I'm the original owner too.

I had a/c compressor replaced when it was new.
3000mi clutch disk/pressure plate.
5000mi seat mat sensor.
5000mi driveshaft spline repacked with grease.
8000mi water pump.
93,000mi differential.
120,000mi valve cover gasket and bolts.

I still track my car and give her beans every day. She's been good to me. I should thank my lucky stars.

I have now 150.000km (almost 100.000 miles)

I had no costs on the car, apart from the usual brake replacements and software updates. (all covered by my BMW service contract waranty)
Only 1 spark plug replaced.
it's incredible...
At this moment i have a bit of a ticking sound that i didn't even notice. The dealer told me that. Will replace the airco pump at my next appointment.
That's it... This thing just keeps running like it should!
I haven't spend 1 cent on my car due to technical problems.
The cheapest car I ever had!

(it's a diesel)

Wow, just closing in on 92k on my `03 e46 ZHP...

Hasn't been a "trouble free" car, but nothing I couldn't handle. People act like they are sooo scared of BMW's (maintenance, mechanical trouble, etc.) and there is some truth to that with the bigger motors, but the I6's are fairly trouble-free, minor issues are not difficult to fix (on your own or at an "independent" shop) and major issues are rare.

I don't think I'll own anything but BMW's from here on, and I try to "convert" people all of the time. My track record isn't too great though, only 2 in four years so far, but I've got two more that are dangerously close to buying...

So what you are really trying to say is that I'm wasting my money on full coverage auto insurance rather than taking a gamble and going with the bare bones.

Nice to see the higher miles and apparently low problems, all things considered.

As someone with a 2007 E90 328, I am curious.

For those that have hit the 100K mark -- did you "supplement" the BMW factory maintenance? Add oil changes in between the ~15k miles? Did you do any transmission/dif. fluid changes or did you rely on the the lifetime fill recommendation?

i think we still need to wait about a year before we can start to see more 335s in this club. they didnt start building them until '06 as an '07 model year. they came out a year after the 325/330s arrived. we gotta bump this thread next summer and see who's in.

I would reccomend buying extended warrenty and extended maintenance. The car doesn't break often but parts and labor are expensive.

I do oil changes every 6500 mi or when it starts to break down. When you see the oil quantity going down, that's a sing of oil breakdown.

Do your spark plugs, manual tranny fluid and diff fluid at 60,000 mi. My diff died because I didn't change the fluid. "Lifetime fill" is complete BS.

Cars become great value the longer you drive them. German premium build cars are made for longevity.

For many owners the mentality of monthly payments with no repair costs makes it predictable. ANd many need predictable elements every day of their lives.

So when the car is paid for, keep making payments into a slush fund. Refrain from mods as thats not the purpose.

Say your paying $500 a month for the car. When the note is retired your now saving $6000 a year. Say you use$2000 a year for repairs. IN three years you still have $12,000 to handle any repair. IN fact, you can keep the car in pristine shape and running like new with regular maitenence.

You also have seed money for a down payment and the resale value for the next one.

Used cars are only a problem with owners that don't have cash.

For that matter, most things are a problem without cash!!!!

My Toyota sienna mini van looks and runs great with 130k on it!! Those NYC taxis often go up to the limited 250k with same drive train in tact!!! We had it since new.

Not E90 related but a good story in the name of BMW.

I friend of mine's father had a 1984 BMW 733i with just under 700,000 km on it. The car ran well and was in respectable shape.. He had it until winter of 2000 after having bought it new.

At the end of it, he had had the car for 16 years, it was paid off in three years. He drove the car daily until the end. He changed the oil religiously every 5,000km. Did all the other fluid annually. Changed the air filter every 25,000km. He had the original tranny and engine... Cluth was replaced twice and he blamed that on his wife not driving the car properly. He had a few major repairs... suspension, a few drivetrain repairs, breaks, etc... but nothing off the wall. The body was rust free but the paint was faded and looked worn. The interior was a mess and had major signs of wear. He was a heavy smoker and the interior was on the nasty side, ahtray always full and the interior very dusty.

The end was... One morning, we went out to start the car to warm it up a bit and then went back into the house. Five minutes later, he goes back outside and sees black smoke coming out of the front and sides of the hood. Something shorted out and caught fire. I was pissed to hear that.. He was going to buy a new car and sell me his for $500! He ended up getting about $3000 from his insurance and ended up buying a new 5-series. 10 years later, he still has it... paid off in three years and he is already up to 280,000km without any significant repairs.

BMW's when taken care of can easily do 300,000kms. A mechanic friend of mine bought a 1996 525i with 220,000kms and said "it was just broken in". he expects to get 400,000kms. In north america we have a throw away culture (I used to do this as well). Well I am getting off the tread mill, taking care of my baby and will keep it until atleast 250,000 kms. Only at 7300 now
