Staggered set-up on xi will affect the all wheel drive system?

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my whees to a staggered 162 style and i
need some inputs on will the staggered wheel set-up affects the performance of the all wheel drive system or even damage it?

Thanks in advance

depends on tire size, as long as it's in proportion you'll be fine. Sport package xi's get staggered set ups from bmw incase you want proof

That's correct. My 335I came with a marginal staggered setup. I am now running 18x9 & 18x10 respectfully, so no worries. Just be quite sure your "rolling diameter" of your tire selection is within specs.

That first tire size doesn't even exist..
For those wheel specs, you will want to run 225/40/18 in front and 255/35/18 in back

Yes you can run a staggered setup on your XI equipped vehicle safely. The above mentioned sizes will all work perfectly! Feel free to shoot me over a PM if you have any questions at all!

Yes, staggered is fine, especially if you buy my M sport staggered wheels/tires at the following link!
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=413232

They came with my 2011 335i xDrive M Sport.

It means the difference in diameter between the rear tires and front tires. Because they are staggered, the sizes won't be exactly the same. As a result, different tire size pairings result in differences in the rolling diameter of the tires between the front and rear...for xi's, this difference should be held below a 1% difference. You can calculate for yourself at the top of the Wheels and Tires section in this forum

The combination of your wheel and tire's diameter.

Your wheels will obviously be the same diameter, but as tires get wider, the sidewall rating changes. The 35 or 40 figure in a tire size is not a nominal distance, but a ratio of the outside diameter to tire width.

On an AWD car, you want the total diameter (wheel+tire or "rolling diameter") to be the same front to back. So if you're screwing with staggered setups (wider rubber in the rear), you'll want to make sure the sidwall size is sufficient to bring the front and rear rolling diameters within a 1 or 2% variance.

Otherwise, your differentials will be working overtime.

Why not 235/35/19 and 265/30/19? I think these are standard size for Xdrive system

I am new to this site but I'm currently running a staggered fitment on my 06 330xi. 265 30 19 rear on 9.5 wheel 235 35 front with 8.5 wheel and haven't had a problem. Only been on the car for a little over 5k miles though. Looking forward to hearing and learning off this site.
