Other than Nav, what does iDrive give you?

Is there already a thread that describes this? If not, could anyone just give me a quick list of what benefits I'll get from iDrive as compared to non-iDrive cars?

I've actually done some research on this by looking at the idrive manuals - learning what it can do - but I'm having a hard time figuring out what non-Drive e90s CAN'T do, in comparison.

Non iDrive cars do not come with the CCC, hence you end up with the LOW version of the car's computer.

You do not have Voice Command (which covers hundreds of functions, from radio to ventilation), you do not have the trip computer, you do not have the ventilation programming/settings, you do not have the parked vehicle ventilation, PLUS the screen real estate is very limited, which is of interest when scrolling through radio, iPod, satradio info.

This is just off the top of my head - might be more I am not thinking of.

you can see the whole phonebook on the screen easier as well at Sat radio easier. A nicer looking dash (IMO).

there's a lot more to it than just navi. if you take the entertainment screen, for instance, you can control and see your current song/station/cd/whatever and easily navigate through them. in the info screen, you get a pretty detailed information about your vehicle (brakes, oil, engine, DRLs, etc). you can also set your entertainment settings there, such as custom EQ (if L7 equipped) or surround settings very easily.

you basically get a lot finer control over your electronic equipment in the car when you have iDrive. it's not like those cheap GM or chrysler navi packages where you literally only get navi, BMW gives you a LOT more.

It makes your Bluetooth phone integration much, much better IMO. Makes it way easier to read and understand warning messages (it doesn't just give you an icon, it has a text message explaining what's up). If you have PDC, it gives a graphical representation of where the obstructions are.

I honestly think the non-iDrive phonebook display is easier to read and navigate. Also, what trip computer are you talking about? I've got the MPG, miles, etc in mine...
