Exclamation mp3 CD file limit appears to be 255

I've learned that the CD player in the BMW Professional radio (non-iDrive) in my 2007 E90 has a maximum recognition of 255 files. The number of folders doesn't seem to be an issue.

I regularly make CDs of music mp3 files for the car player, and never gave a file limit any thought until the last project I made. When I looked for a specific track that I knew was in a folder 19, I saw that the folder listing stopped at folder 15. I noted that the highest track number was 255, and when I checked the disc on the computer, found that it had 334 tracks stored in 22 folders. I checked some older discs I'd made, and found that they all stopped at 255, no matter the number of folders. I nearly always load the discs up, so they can easily exceed 255 files.

I searched the forum, and couldn't find any discussion of this, so I thought I'd post for the benefit of others. There's no mention of this in the radio manual, and I don't know if this is a universal limit, or confined to brands or radio series within the brand. Has anyone out there had a different experience with this?

It's kind of a bummer -- I have no problem with the limit, because it still puts a lot of music on a CD, but now I'll have to go back and split up my older compilations. Wish I'd known about it from the beginning. I probably have some new music to discover that never played in the car.

I know now to keep my compilations at 255 tracks or fewer.

Do you have a USB port? I use an 8GB drive on mine and seems to be working fine. I don't know if this helps or not.
