Yes, Mercure currently shows as fully booked. Spoke with the General Manager there and he is seeing if he can free up some rooms.

However, the Ibis Koblenz has rooms - 3 night special offer for 123 total at the moment. Basic hotel, but clean and secure. Just down the road from the Mercure.

On a Touristenfahrten the 'Ring is a public road with all German traffic laws applicable. As a result, for German private car insurance it is covered within their policies.

You have to check with your own insurance company - they will obviously exclude all track days, but Touristenfahrten is NOT a track day. Check your policy document carefully - sometimes the insurance company will specifically exclude the Nurburgring, and mention it in name, but if there are no specific excusions then you are technically covered. However, if you crash because you're driving like an idiot, no insurance company will cover you as the German police will deem your accident as being self-inflicted through reckless driving.

looking at the various legal docs on web I found one that seems quite clear. If you have cover for europe you will have 3rd party cover on the ring. However matter of fully comp is tough one. My policy does not exlcude the ring but states not covered for "competition, performance test, trialm, race or trial of stpeed, incluiding off-rad events, whether bnetween motor vehicles or otherwise, and irrespecticve of whether this takes palce on a cirtuir or track, formed or otherwise"

could be read either way. Will get in touch with broker and find out. if not any ideas where you can get full cover from

We're in Surrey too, so happy to convoy! Sainsburys Cobham (just off the A3 junction with the M25 is a good place to meet). Lars will be coming from Reading, so he'll probably meet up with us too.

It's usual to meet at the Tunnel terminal in time for a last proper fat-bastard breakfast before three days of girly continental stuff.

Not too late at all. First post in this thread has all the details. Mercure hotel is full I believe but the Ibis in Koblenz still has rooms.

Probably, the Mercure has been fully booked for some time. Better for the trip if the group stay reasonably close together.

No problem - solution is at the 'Ring...

Why stay in Koln ?? It's an hour away from the 'Ring, and over an hour away from us in Koblenz...
