loud noise while hitting brake and pushing clutch

the noise is pretty loud and it felt like the engine or tranny was going to come through the front of the car. i was rolling up to a stop light, going real slow, and a car jumped in front of me so i hit the brake really fast and got this loud bang. check to see if it would happen again and it did. also while going slow through a drive through or pulling up to lights if i let the rpm get too low my car will make a clunk noise when i push the clutch in. any ideas? thanks

Depends on your definition of loud. There are threads on here about the clunk heard/felt when coasting slowly in first gear, then pressing the clutch before stopping. Not 100% sure why it happens, but they all seem to do it under the right conditions (i.e. slowly looking for a parking spot in a lot, then pressing the clutch then brake quickly.)

Well the noise you describe is the Clutch I think! I've heard that a lot, kind of sounds like a dry clutch where the plates rattle a bit. Is it a dry clutch?

i have read about the clutch issue but i get a very similar sound when i quickly hit the brakes. but it can be felt through the whole car. im going to get the tech at my dealership to have a peek and then it might be road trip time. sucks cause i just drove 14 hrs to pick the car up last weekend.

Could be the ABS system kicking in, especially if you slammed on the brakes. It makes noise too. I also get the same noise sometimes when pushing the clutch in first or second. I think it's all normal.

The second noise you describe, the clutch rattle when you drive slow and push in the clutch -- that is normal.

The first noise was not normal.

Sorry to resurrect this from the dead but did you ever figure out what the clunk was? I think I'm having the same issue.
