I believe there is a difference between the oil coolers, whether it be quantity or size. My dealer received a memo stating that the M-Tech Bodykit could be installed at the VPC. When I placed the order, they came back saying that they could not do it for my vehicle at the moment because mine was a stick and had sports package. When my SA inquired more about the reason, they said that it had something to do with the oil cooler.

Reason i ask is that the "overheating issues" that the audi guys noticed at the local track were driving automatic 335i.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=overheating Later we found out they had a bmw tech at the track few weeks ago and mentioned about the oil cooler thing. I was just curious if that is true. If it is then that whole overheating thing was really nothing major.

I have no idea, but that is what it asks in ETK when you try to access the Engine Oil Cooler, both High Speed Synchronisation AND Manual Gearbox must be Yes or it will not show the part number for Engine Oil Cooler. |

this is exactly the information I got from a german tuner (Evotech). In Germany both (MT and AT) have oil coolers. Dont ask me why Thats the reason why in US only 335i with MT could be tuned up to 375HP and AT "only" to 360HP.

I just looked around inside my 335i Step Sedan. I'm used to oil coolers being in front, to take advantage of fresh cool air. I found the radiator and the a-t-a intercooler, but not the oil cooler. Of course I was very limited in what I could see by the various plastic covers which I have not removed and not having a lift. However, I did crawl around and used a mirror to see up into the wheel wells, which according to 1 BMW report is where the air-to-oil intercooler is located.
Does anyone have a schematic of where these oil coolers are supposed to be? Can anyone find one or two on their MT version, then I'll look in the same places! Last edited by sdiver68; 01-09-2007 at 11:09 AM. |

If someone with a MT can see theirs, I'll double check but I spent some time seeing both entire wheel wells with a light and mirror... |

Well I would not have missed that, it's obvious as day, I think it's confirmed that US Steps (at least my sport pkg sedan) have no air-to-oil cooler!
OK, now for some thoughts. BMW Reps stated that the A/T did not "need" a 2nd oil cooler, now is this because the M/T dumps more heat into the engine where the auto does not, or simply because BMW believes that Step drivers don't push their cars as hard? I have an appt tomorrow for 2 TSB's...I'll ask my SA where my oil cooler is and make an issue of it, see what they come back with! Last edited by sdiver68; 01-09-2007 at 04:09 PM. |
