Vehicle Wrapping Tips

Hey guys I'm wrapping my car in Avery matte white vinyl and have been researching non stop on tools, techniques, and tips. I have read numerous articles and watched many videos. I have ordered 3M Primer 94 for the edges and concave areas...don't think edge sealer is needed. I got about 4FT x 25Y for my whole car.

I was wondering if those of you who have had experience or are professionals can give me some tips for my DIY. I read the thread "wrapped my car" (forget the username) but that really didn't explain much. I know that I need to properly clean the paint with Prep-sol (I think that's what it is called) and follow it up with alcohol.

Any tips for hard areas?
Front bumper slots? Do I wrap it in pieces?
Tips for cutting to prevent scratching the paint? Saw a video on stripping tape made by 3M...can't find it anywhere, just striping tape. (For lettering, decals, etc.)
Planning on doing some overlap for the rear quarter panel since it extends over the doors to the front. Where should I overlap? I was thinking along the line near the middle of the doors. But I'm kinda leaning towards doing it on the upper portion where it starts to thin to go over the doors. Less area to scratch/notice?

This is going to be a busy next few weeks.

Thanks in advanced!

I suggest this forum to create a sub-section under this "Technical Forums". I believe vinyl wrapping has become a warranted section.

I have been doing interior exterior vinyl wraps for some time now. I exclusively use 3M Dinoc vinyls. Be careful with the primer 94, as it can damage the paint. As far as cutting to not damage the paint, you can do it 2 ways. Use very light pressure to only score the vinyl or lay it down, then lift it back up to cut. Also, make sure to only use just enough heat to make your vinyl workable. Using excessive heat will breakdown the adhesive on the back of the dinoc and handicap the adhesion.

Hope this helps a little. If you need any more tips or advice feel free to send me a text or give me a call @ 704.791.7793, I will help you out.

Here is an e36 M3 I did and the roof on an e60 M5

Nice work...thanks for the reply. I've started my wrapping process with Avery brand matte white vinyl but it is SO MUCH harder to work with than the 3M Di-NOC...wrapping me roof was a piece of cake compared to using this vinyl on the body panels.

I've decided I'm not wrapping my whole car....due to time constraints and the possibility of staining, which would require me to re-wrap my whole car next spring

That E36 looks REALLY NICE! I want one!

Thanks for the compliment. If you ever need any 3M dinoc, let me know as I am in with the manufacturer.
