How do you take off auto shift knob

I have read the DIY for removing shift knob and most of the discussions are related to pulling off manual shift knob. Any ideas if it's the same thing for auto? Just pull it up straight without pressing the shift button ?

I should not press the shifter right while pulling right? ? just pull it right up when the gear in Park, correct?

You can also put it in N if it works for you. I moved the seat up a little bit and used my elbow as leverage.

Successful..It is easier than I thought. It took me 10 seconds at the most to pull it straight up. Thanks for the help guys....

Do you push the shifter button in while you are pulling up? Or do you not push it in while pulling?

I have tried this technique on my E46 and was never able to pull hard enough. I always felt I would break something.

I did not push the shifter button. I did it from the passenger seat following some of the advice in previous postings. 5-10 seconds of pulling up and you're done.
