Ugh, here we go again. A quick search will yield a good review and data compilations of all FMICs.
They will all help, but don't be thrifty with any mods on your car... I'd definitely get a FMIC that has cast end tanks. Everyone is going to tell you to buy the FMIC that they bought. I have the AMS FMIC, and it's great... however, I did no testing whatesoever so my opinion is meaningless. Don't let saving $200-$300 for a cheap intercooler sway you. |

If you are looking for a great deal, we have a GB going on the cp-e FMIC/oil cooler combo.... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=416836 Definitively NOT a cheap intercooler, but the quality is all there, and the GB pricing is pretty smokin!
Some very interesting reading / data on the cp-e intercooler: http://www.cp-e.com/sites/default/fi...es/n54FMIC.pdf

Boogie, Im in the same position as you. I searched for hours looking for reviews on FMICs and everyone gives their own opinion and say its the best one. Even if you look at the numbers, one person puts more emphasis on iat, then someone says something else.
I heard the hpf ic is pretty awesome but is heavy at 22lbs. As for meth, I want something that wont void my warranty. My dealership is pretty understandable about mods but meth would be a whole other story. I dont think you can go wrong with any of the ic but would look at ones $800 and up for quality sake. |

well at first I was referring to your Original post, which said something like "meth is bad for your car if you plan on keeping it for a while..isn't it?" which is just a bad and unwarranted statement/question. Now your New and Edited post reads, "Meth is corrosive though", is just as unintelligent as the prior.
Meth is very good for our direct-injection engine, as it cleans the intake manifold and valves which are getting caked with carbon as we speak. All things equal, meth will likely extend the 'healthy' years of your engine. The only basis you have to say it is corrosive is when sits in puddles...which you might very well have in your intake tract. for normal users with it correctly installed, it will mist into the engine and will unlikely have the opportunity to corrode anything. As the posts above suggest, this thread can and needs to end before it is muddled with more garbage and potentially giving [new] n54 owners junk information. |

Oh yea, by the way Methanol, although a weak acid, attacks the oxide coating that normally protects the aluminium from corrosion. Just so you know |
