Just watch Job's demo of the unit. It's built on OSX, has a TRUE web browser, uses SMS, email with embedded graphics, NO stylus, portrait and lanscape mode automatically selected.

Cingular is the only carrier unfortunately. Jobs says 3G is coming.

To those saying "what's the big deal ?" - this is a whole new type of product. Everything controlled through the screen with a finger. The magic is in how, not what as one poster said before.

My concern is that it will actually hurt iPod sales. Will be interested in seeing how the stock peforms over by next Christmas. Apple makes most of t heir money on the hardware peice, not the music so it will be interesting to see how many units they actually ADD.

It won't hurt iPod sales because of the limited capacity (max 8 Gbytes).

It won't hurt corporate Palm or RIM sales because it has no security (remote wipe, VPN, etc.).

It starts at a price point where 1% of the market is (the $500 and over market).

It's beautiful, it's futuristic, it has a lot of elements which make sense - but that does not make it a successful product. Only time will tell.

It looks enticing and will sell. iPod with phone & internet = one less thing to carry.

Yep, can't wait until it release. But I like to have 3G. I'm sure if not this version in June, the next version will... maybe 2008? At first I was thinking this is cool, iPod + cell phone, but now I found out the disk space is only 4G to 8G... that can't replace my 30G iPod! But the OSX integrated interface and true webbrowsing... that's something no phones out there I know about can do. Although just hope the bluetooth software in the iPhone works with the BMW bluetooth!

Can't believe it, shouldn't have sold my Apple stocks!

Here is what I would like to see added...

- At least double the storage (16GB), the more the better
- GPS. it would make Google maps much more useful
- 3G support
- higher res screen. 320x480 is only half-VGA!

Having said that, I would love to get one.

Couldn't agree more with you "La Verdad".

I guess there is always people out there that just have to say "it's no a big deal", because they see is made by Apple. I wonder if they are saying the same thing about the iPod right now. On the other hand the phone not only offers excelents technologies which are working better than any phone out there, but the opportunity that this phone offers are incredible since the phone runs Mac OS X means that will open a hole new world for people to develop new applications forthis phone, like more search engines, perhaps a version of Skype services, and even real games (not solitary) can be load in this new device.

Salu2!

Pairs up just fine with the bluetooth. I don't have the nav system so it has limited capabilities thru the radio... multiple phone numbers per person doesn't always show up. Everything else that I need to make and receive calls works fine.

"can browse the internet?" etc. you'd probably get the same answers. however, with apple, the crucial question that should be asked is not "what it does" but "how it does it." and they do it well, trust me on that.

Thanks for the info. I didn't review the iPhone indepth, just looked at the features and was honestly asking if 'this was a big deal' in the way as would it change the market like the ipod.

I'd have to agree that the phone sucks. When I purchased mine I thought it was cool and the ability to hold music was appealing because I wouldn't have to carry a phone and an mp3 player. But after using the thing and having to fight with the sensitivity of the buttons, even when adjusted, I perfer my wife's razr over the chocolate.

Bluetooth - 50-50 chance
Aux - if it has a dock connector, and I think it does, you can attach an interface that has the right output.

Both a dock connector and a headphone jack.

I am not saying it is bad, but it is not the best either. You can buy a Sharp Zaurus SL-C750, which has 214ppi and a 640x480 (3.7" display) resolution, and this model was announced already 2 years ago, so this is hardly new.

And as you might have noticed, I still said I would love to get one, although the lack of 3G is a bit problematic for such a phone

What I find annoying about the chocolate is when you place the phone to your ear, it will travel through a bunch of different menus. Not a huge problem, and could be avoided with a wireless ear unit or bt in the car but still I shouldn't have to be inconvienced by it.

Apple has dealt with that Verizon Chocolate problem by re-inventing the touchscreen. Apparently they've patented the hell out of it.

Question: Does Cingular have ANY 3G phones?

Answer: They only have THREE 3G enabled smartphones. And neither the Sidekick (T-Mobile) nor any of the Blackberries that are available for Cingular, are 3G enabled.

So really... it's not like someone is taking anything away from you. The vast, vast majority of the US is making do without 3G for now. And they've already stated that a 3G version of the iPhone is in the works.

So ya'll can quit your moaning already. Though I know that's a favorite pastime on any Bimmer forum.

If you would have paid any attention, you might have noticed that my Location field was set to Belgium, which in case you flunked geography is in Europe.

And there are many more 3G phones available then three, have a look at http://www.gsmarena.com/ and use the phone finder on the left hand side of the page and select under "Network" the "GSM and UMTS (3G)" option.
If you now press Search, you will get several pages of phones. When I did it just now I got 204 phones returned, of which (if I narrow the search further) 163 are listed as being currently available.

looks like Cisco system is going to court against Apple, the "iphone" name is theirs since 2000, according to them... that is going to be an expensive name for Apple if Cisco win.
