Bought my first BMW E92 (montego)! Advice on extended warranty (2007 at 67k miles)

Hey All,

I thought I would share this momentous occasion with the E92 crew. After over a year of drooling at the 335i coupe, test driving all comparable cars, and negotating deals but not being able to pull the trigger, I have finally bought a 2007 BMW 335i coupe.

The details are as follows:

Montego Blue, Black/Aluminum interior
Auto
Fully Loaded - Premium, Sport, Nav, DVD, Sirius, Parking Sensors, etc.
Extended Maintenance Plan
67k miles (yes, high miles but I got a killer deal)
CA Manufacturer Buyback (fuel pump issue, replaced with the new fuel pump)
No accidents / No structural damage
One Owner

Total Price - $19,250!!!

Question - I'm looking at keeping the car for at least 5 years, so I'm pretty sure it's a good idea to buy an extended warranty. What are your recommendations? I know there are a ton of options, obviously BMW, MasterTech (I used them for my Mazda Rx8), etc. Do any provide up to 5 yr / unlimited mileage? I only have one bumper to bumper quote so far for 3 yr/ 36k miles for $2k.

Exterior Mods coming soon...

-M3 Side Skirts
-M3 Front Bumper (does anyone still make these? Jlevi said they were working on one but I don't know any other vendors)
-New wheels (tbd - morr alloys, vmr, bbs lmr)
-Possibly black window trim and black kidneys (depending on if I go stealth mode or stick with silver trim)

Interior
-Of course, after buying it on Saturday I made the grand daddy of mistakes and cleaned the whole interior with Armor All! ugh - only to research later that it's a bunch of crap. I will have to find some 303 that everyone talks about soon and fix it up. Being a 67k mile car, the interior needs some true love.

Pics will be posted soon.

I'm not aware of any unlimited mileage warranties. Additionally, you don't qualify for the BMW Extended Vehicle protection as you must purchase it before the original factory warranty expires.

Lots of miles but a killer price. Good luck, you definitely need a warranty!

some more research

I'm not sure of the company or contract details for the 3 yr/ 36k mile warranty...it was offered by the dealer but I'll find out and let you guys know.

I've been doing some research and found Carchex. They seem reputable. I was quoted 3200$ for a 4 year / 48k mile extended warranty with a 50$ deductible. So that would extend me up til 115k on my car.

That was after I stated that I didn't want the navigation covered and would be paying everything upfront.

He pitched the old 'I can get my manager on the line to discuss further discounts'....so I'm thinking I may be able to grab the 4 yr for 2900$ or so.

Does anyone know any other REPUTABLE third party companies out there? I've been looking but can't find many.

Thanks to the person who informed me that I can't get it through BMW.

i looked on the bmw website and saw that i do have an option to choose their powertrain extended warranty (that's the lowest level, then comes gold, then platinum) if the car is below 80k miles and is less than 7 years from the in service date.

That deal still sucks though.

My bad, I was assuming you'd want more than the powertrain warranty - there is that option but like you said, it's not a very attractive option as it's very limited in coverage.

I got the carchex guys down to 3164$ and that's the best they can do. Any other companies anyone thinks I should try? I should probably start a new thread with that question.

Congrats on the car...gotta love Montego Blue.

As for the "new fuel pump" your car has. BMW has gone through numerous fuel pumps...and to my understanding they have yet to eliminate the hpfp failure problem. Your pump will still be covered for 10 years/120k miles. Just thought you should know...there are brand new 2010s with the same hpfp problems.

Definitely do the black kidney grills, also check out the oem aero lip through Tischer BMW, different look than the M front bumper, but just as aggressive and you can get it painted and shipped for around $500.

500$? nice.....I didn't know they came so well priced.

If I don't go with the black look, i'm thinking of bbs lm-r's (the gunmetal grey looking ones) but I do realize they are ridiculous. Maybe I can score some 19's on this forum.

If the car is under 80k and not 7 years passed the in service date, you can shop around with different BMW dealers to get the best price. It's totally negotiable.

You can do the same with 3rd party folks.

BMW doesn't work for me bc the mileage on my car only allows for a powertrain extended warranty which is quite basic and wouldn't cover the things that would actually go wrong with the vehicle.

I wrote a post about extended warranty I just got and all the ins and outs of it. That should give you some good information.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...party+warranty

And there is NO bumper to bumper warranty except the original manufactur one. Any BMW dealer would tell you that too. The best extended warranty (assuming 3rd party) you can get will be very close to the CPO warranty.

Congrats on the car. Don't worry about the mileage. I think these cars are made to be driven. I am at 78k now. The car performs well... except if I don't drive it for a few days. Then it has long cranks for a day or two. Also I have wastegate rattle on start up. I am looking into aftermarket turbos for that!
