Exact same thing happened to me. It was iced coffee. I was thrilled.

Cupholders are great otherwise - was told by a non-BMW driver that they would only hold a 8oz can of Red Bull. Then I realized not to listen to non-BMW drivers when it comes to BMWs.

I'm a coffee fiend (not a morning person) and I've settled on a travel mug from Planetary Design - works great, lives through the dishwasher, and plays nice with E9x cupholders.

They're flimsy and easy to break. My friend broke mine..I fixed it myself by opening it up and putting it back together. Now my other friend just broke his and I'm going to help him fix his too. Post #4 is ridiculously stupid...the problem isn't "hurr durrr extra lurgg value size cokessss fatass revieweeerrrs".. just they're flimsy..and when they break they're expensive to replace.

They are great. I just tell people that this car does not cupholders at all. So, they cannot bring any drinks inside. Simple. Thank you BMW!

My water bottle falls out whenever I make a hard turn. I find that if the bottle is full, it falls out more often than when it's half empty.

Custom Cup Holder Suggestions?

Hey all,

I'm looking to pick up a CPO 2011 328i Xdrive Sedan. I haven't driven a F10 yet, but seems like the new car is not worth the price tag while the drive is not as good.

However, I was wondering if anyone did custom cupholder mods for the driver side. Or anybody buy something and just add it in by the driver side next to the gearbox? The OEM cupholders can't hold a medium sized coffee well. And I don't care about the "it's about driving first" argument. People want practical cupholders.

Thanks.

my last car had perfectly positioned cup holders with an easily removed insert which meant everything from the skinny red bull cans to gatorade bottles, to big coffee mugs fit in there. Only thing that didnt fit in there when I tried was a vase with flowers in it. After having that experience the e90 cup holders are pretty poor, but I dont drink anything in the car but maybe once a month or less so it doesnt bother me much.

I like the cup holders. Especially because they don't collect sticky change that glues itself to the bottom.

1) They block the A/C/heat for the passenger.
2) See #1

Enough said. Stupid design.

I'll admit they're not the best design, but I've found them to work well. They're out of the way until you need them. They encourage me to use my reusable cups and mugs.

I've found the plastic reusable double insulated cups fit well, as do the Copco coffee travel mugs you can get from Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

My E90 has the recess where the iDrive control would sit. I've even used that. The cups and travel mugs I have fit pretty well there. I have to keep a hand on them though.

I'm fine with the cup holders. But I can say that the narrow 16 and 20 oz. sodas and what not do tend to bounce around in them and may easily jostle out. I didn't find this out until I'd had my car for quite some time as nobody in my family drinks Coke, Pepsi, etc. that come packaged in femininely shaped bottles. We all drink Vitamin Water, Gatorade, LIfewater, and a handful of other non-carbonated soft drinks. The containers for the things we drink fit perfectly.

If anything the window control on e9x's needs to be adjusted closer...lol the cup holders aren't that bad whatsoever.

I'm 6'2" and my seat position is low and I know what you guys mean. Naturally my hand always hit the rear window switches.

Ok I have to quote myself and laugh because the next day after I posted this I was dropping a buddy off after the bar, it was dark and as he is getting out of the car I notice the passenger side cup holder is out so I quickly try to reach over and push it in - right as he knees right through it and breaks it. Isn't it ironic.

I think a simple fix would be to have an orange halo light at the bottom of the cup holder. That way its easier to see when its sticking out.

I don't have a problem. It holds my diet coke cans, bottle water, and coffee cups.

Stop drinking extra large drinks and maybe then it will work out for you. No wonder why America is so fat.

I just got my car but it seems to hold everything pretty well from my experience. Maybe down the road I might find some odd fitting cup it doesn't like, but that is the least of my concerns at this point.
