E63 M6 Coupe and M6 Convertible Productions End
BMW has announced the end of production for the E63 M6 coupe and convertibles. 14,152 M6 coupes were built in total, which began production in 2005 and 5,065 convertibles were built from 2006 on.
The next generation F12/F13 M6 will continue to share the engine and drivetrain with the F10 M5, and is expected to make its world public debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Follow our full F12/F13 M6 coverage: http://www.bimmerpost.com/m6/ (including spy photos and videos) Quote:

This is confusing. Various news outlets reported the same thing back in July. For example, here's Jalopnik's article:
http://jalopnik.com/5593616/bmw-m6-p...0-ends-with-it Perhaps this press release just finally makes it official? Or perhaps this is more of a "Hey, we know we told you this happened already, but here's more details including sales figures.".

If you assume a selling price of around $100,000 US per car in gross revenue, the E63 M6 generated almost $2 Billion (with a B) in cash flow for BMW during its life cycle, with nearly $700M in US sales alone. Wow. I wonder if it turned a profit?
Also interesting that the M6 and M5 sold in nearly equal numbers.

Is it just me, or do you think that BMW could really never stop using this engine... I think they are tweaking it and playing with hybrid motors. The big boys like Porsche and Ferrari are doing the same, and I am sure Audi and Lamborghini will come out with motor soon that is hybrid with 8+cylinders. Its the wave of the future. No Millionaire who can afford such cars truly cares about emissions or MPG's... but it if make the companies image better to experiment with hybrids great.
I just don't see the V10's and V12s of the world going away any time soon. |

The S65 is left to hold the fort on her own, when that beast is put to rest, that, my friends, is when the reminiscent of the car division that I feel in love with 15 years ago will have passed on to a better place.....
Cheers, e46e92

Sad day but given the sport-luxury nature of the m5/m6 (as opposed to the purist complaints around M3 evolution), I'm optimistic that the engineers will succeed in improving the later generations.
