Car Hit From Behind

Well my mom had got in a car accident its not to bad compared to the other 2 cars that were totaled. The back bumper is not really dented in but on the right it has black scrapes but woulda been a lot worse. Shes never really been in this situation they wrote a 500 dollar estimate how much u guys think its gonna be for a new bumper and paint job. Or how much you guys would demand .. Thanks for the help.

$500 seems low if she needs a whole new bumper and paint. Sounds about right if they're going to fix the existing bumper and respray though. Who wrote the estimate? Insurance company? Body shop? Presumably she's not a fault here since she was hit from behind, so let the insurance companies worry about cost. Tell them what you want and make them get it done.

Ask for body shop recommendations in your local forum
The bodyshop recommended by the insurance is ALWAYS the cheapest for them and seldom the best for you.
I'm guessing several thousand dollars when all is said and done.

did the cop at the scene write the estimate you mean?

Because when I got hit and hit the car in front of me...The "estimate" and beleive me, that's exactly what it was... turned out to be 500 as well.

Insurance looked at the car 2 weeks later at the shop, damage was almost 4k.
Just let insurance handle it.

I had something like that happen a few months ago. I was hit from behind (not in the BMW). I obtained an estimate from a body shop of my choosing, paid the deductible up front, and filed a claim with my insurance company. My insurance company then collected from the insurance company of the individual who hit me, and reimbursed me for the deductible. The insurance industry process is called "subrogation" and it took about 4 weeks.

I'd rather do that than argue with the other driver's insurance company and use the cheapest body shop that they could possibly find. There was damage behind my bumper that was not visible externally.

If your mother's car is a BMW then the costs are going to exceed $500. I've seen too many shady repair jobs to want to have it repaired. If she's not at fault she shouldn't have to pay for any of the repair/replacement costs. I personally have all my work done at the dealership and I've found that bumper replacements are quite costly. Here in Korea the replacement + labor runs near USD 10K. If the sensors got damaged, then it's going to cost more.

I hope your mothers okay. Hope the other drivers are as well.

Rear bumper cover is ~$500 new, usually about $350-400 for a remanufactured one.

Add about $500 in paint and labor.

BTW, if your rear bumper cover shows any sort of stress cracks, they can't re-use it since you can't repair that structural damage. Odds are if you look in the right light, you'll see them.
