undercoating?

Does anyone know a good place where you get an undercoat? I held off getting it done at the dealership because it cost $900. Any good places in vancouver for less the $900?

understandably ur winters are bad, but there really isnt a need to have under coating done on our cars. not only are they sealed from the factory w an anti-corrosion material, but almost the entire underbelly is closed up w plastic covers, for that reason, and to help w aerodynamic stablility @ speed! :rocks:

i read somewhere as well that most newer cars are coated with a certain amount of protection from the factory, and the undercoating offered by the dealership was not needed with newer cars.

Newer cars are shipped with cosmoline, it burns off in the first 1500km or so. Yes, the undersides are almost completely covered in plastic, but the break lines and some of the frame are still exposed. I think if you're leasing a car it's probably not worth it to undercoat. If you own it I can't think of a single reason not to. It's $100 from Krowne and if you do it yearly they give you a lifetime warranty against any corrosion.

Actually now that I think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a BMW with rust

I always thought that the manufacturer warranty was for perforation due to rust - in other words, useless (unless you like never wash the car in the winter...)

I did it yearly on my past two leased cars, because I wasn't sure if I was going to buy them out. Getting the undercoat from day one is more effective than waiting for corrosion to start and then getting the undercoat. Even so, this time around with the 335 I think I'm going to defer application until I actually do decide if I'm keeping the car. I also got turned off of the process a bit with the 330 because there was excessive overspray in the engine compartment and I gave up on trying to keep it clean

Manufacturer warranty are for inside to outside perforation. That won't cover your wiring harness rusting, or brake lines, or rust from paint damage, etc.

As for seeing BMW's with rust, I see a lot of cars so many I am abnormal, but I see all makes of cars with rust here all the time, most of them late model.

It's $100 a year, totally worth it imo. A big part of the process is finding someone who does a good job, like with anything.

NODS... i would not get your car oiled up or any other sort of mumbo jumbo that they offer... stay away from drilling holes in your car and fililng it up with oil... its not a ford or a honda.
From factory they are treated and some german manuf fill it with wax.
