iPod integration

The car I've ordered has:

"Auxiliary audio input for portable music players located in the center armrest"

How does this work with iPod. Will I be able to use the car's audio controls to manipulate songs on the iPod? Does anyone know what the NEW iPod/USB will offer in terms of functionality?

You need the new ipod USB if you want to control ipod through steering wheel.

You can get it off of Circle BMW website at a nice discount and have your dealer do the install.

I thought it was just a simple plug your ipod into the aux jack and let the songs rip? Are there additional steps or other "parts" that you need?

No but you can't rechaarge, change selections, etc with the aux jack. From threads I've read, the jacks (male and female recepticles) get worn out fast.

Best to spend the extra bucks and get it done right. Just my two cents.

Ja, correct. For some reason I had 2.5 mm on the brain because for Internet radio I have to go from 2.5 to 3.5 mm

I'm using the monster charger/line out for the ipod and it works great. Plugs into the bottom of your ipod and gives you a mini out jack. Just plug in a mini stereo cable and connect it to the port in your car. Then plug in the power plug on the monster adapter. You don't have steering wheel control but it works well and a heck of a lot cheaper than the bmw adapter. $40 for the monster adapter and $10 for the stereo cable.

Cool. Another solution using the "bottom" out of the I-pod.

I saw the link you posted, that looks like a good solution too.
I think you'll get the best quality via the line out instead of using the headphone out. Somebody posted before that the headphone out uses a resistor to control volume and that can affect SQ.
