Convince me NOT to get Valentine 1 Radar Detector

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this bad boy today. From the research I have done it is probably the most trusted item on the market.

Is there anything out there that you guys might choose over this product, and why?

The reason why I have not purchased the V1 yet is because in my area most police use Laser, and as everyone knows, once your V1 goes off, it's too late.

However, I've borrowed friends' V1s during trips down to socal and I've been saved by it on the freeway many times. For total protection I would recommend the V1 along with a laser jammer

i waited a long time to get mine and i am happy i did. it all depends if and how often cops use LIDAR in your area. V1 will not save from laser guns. for full protection you need V1 and some good laser jammer....but they are expensive.

I love my V1 and I have owned it or 5 years. I have gotten 2 tickets in that time and 1 was to laser and 1 was KA. Joonsup is correct about needing a jammer to go along with it, I got the KA because it was 3am I am broke the rule never speed alone on the road late at night. The cop was using the KA in a instant own mode and picked me off before I could see him. I have heard of some of the newer units available from other companies like passport had a way to drop in GPS locations to shut down false alarm areas that you travel on a day to day to keep the alerts down to a minimum. Also some that warned you about traffic cams but I never looked into them.

I have the 9500ix, in tests, its not as sensitive as the V1, but it's much more intelligent. It saves locations or blocks out reoccurring alerts and will be silenced the next time you are in the area. It also allows you to mark a location such as a new speed trap. The benefit of the 9500ix is the built in GPS feature that warns drivers of possible speed traps and red light or speed cameras. It's also update-able but only for a 6 months period.

my good buddy was gonna give me a v1 as a gift for me getting the 335I until we went out with another buddy of ours that is a cop to test out the v1 and with his laser speed trap gun and the v1 failed epically so i told my friend to save the money. after that he regretted buying it for himself in the first place.

Get something else if you enjoy slowing down not knowing if the cop is in front or behind you.

Have you looked at the escort and beltronics range?

Do you want a portable or an installed one? some installed ones can be quite concealed.

Actually I am thinking about an escort QI 45 for me, but things are quite different here, and most detectors for USA radars are useless here, so the choice is much limited.

You can have the best radar detector that is made and it won't do jack against laser. Laser is practically instant so if you are the one being targeted you are SOL. On the other hand, it works wonders if the cops are running radar. YouTube is full of videos where the V1 picks up cops from insane distances. I've picked up those k-band radar signs they use in construction zones from 2 miles or more before when I was on a perfectly flat and straight road.

V1 is not meant to be used for laser... thats what LI or Blinders are for. Hints the Valentine one RADAR detector.

I also have the 9500ix. Wouldnt trade it for anything. I have had a few other Escorts though so I am biased.

I have a V1 and my family has the 9500ix (i think), in my opinion the sensitivity is miles above what the escort offers. Of course that might be a bad thing, since I'm slowed down for 5 minutes before I pass a cop with v1 and only 10 seconds before passing them with escort.

V1 has probably saved me around $5000 thus far. You are nuts not to get one. Here in CA, we see Laser AND KA band, the majority of which is KA. The weekend I got it I drove to Vegas and avoided 3 tickets on the way just because I had it.

Just get it already.

Like someone else said, do the research. There are several good ones. The V1, however, is the only one that looks like a remote control from a 1985 cable box.
