Not to ask a REALLY dumb question, but if I were to get this, it would cost me the $992.75 to get it to me (don't need the install kit, car is 10/06 build date), then whatever my local shop would charge for install...right? If that's true, I'm in!

Last edited by BlakeAction; 10-03-2010 at 04:46 PM. Reason: Messed up the build date...meant 2006. Sorry....

So this is for a chunk ready to go? If not, is there an option for that?

Wavetrac offers an installation kit for those with welded diffs, and I managed to get the price of that reduced down to $595.00 from the original 700.00

Check the chart below to see if you need the installation kit.

There is an option for wavetrac to send you a complete core ready to install. There is a 800 refundable core charge for that which you get back when you send your stock core back. Are you mt or at?

I know there is a shortage of at cores but I believebthe mt cores are readily available. Will confirm everything fir everybody early next week as i am out of town on some much needed r/r so I apologize firmthe delays in responding. Internet is sketchy here

If someone does the core swap - what is the average cost for a shop to install this for you? Not sure of the shop time on this...

Does anyone know how long the install would take?
and also if there's an install fee if I'm local and go directly to wavetrac.

do we get any sort of refund if we buy just the core at 992.75 and then return our old core?

Hi Mike, my car reads on the door 10/06, so I guess I'm bolted. What is the price shipped to 00623? Thanks

Ok so trying to get this straight. Car is 08 6mt so welded dif. I pay $992 plus $500 for install kit + $800. So 2200ish. And that get me a complete finial drive unit with LSD already in it that I can just bolt right on (friend has a full shop). Then i take my stock finial drive unit and send it back to them and they refund my $800? This all right? PM me if you would. I'd be intrested in the group buy.

hi Mike, thanks for posting the GB, looks like pretty good price relative to retail. A few questions whenever you get a chance:

these pertain to owners with welded gears that need to purchase the installation kit

- the "Installation Kit" is essentially allow the buyer to perform a direct swap of the entire diff unit, pull out the stock diff case which contains the open diff, then bolt in another diff case that came from wavetrac with the LSD ring gears installed correct? This would be what people called the pumpkin swap, yes?

- If the above is true, are there any shipping charges? Is wavetrac covering shipping the Installation Kit to buyers/shipping buyer's stock diff back, or is wavetrac covering shipping to the buyer/buyer covers shipping of stock diff back, or does the buyer need to pay for the entire round trip shipping bill?

- What are the expected shipping charges? an actual diff casing with everything in it isnt light and needs to be handled with care, I'm assuming ground shipping each way will run no less than $80 - $100? Do you have an idea?

thx

Great questions...

I'd also like to know if this is really a direct "pumpkin swap" in the case of a welded diff, does that also make installation much faster/easier/cheaper? Does it eliminate the need for intricate shimming and stuff like that? I.e. - un-bolt the old pumpkin, bolt in the new one? Even a DIY perhaps?

You got it. pm me your email address and i will get you on the list.

For the question about shipping the cores. It's about 75-100 bux i believe. I am not 100% sure about who covers e shipping costs but think it's the customers responsibility. Don't think the install kit covers shipping. Will double check when get back as I have to speak to them about a few issues so things will be more clear on wednesday for everybody

for sure the pumpkin swap saves you (or your shop) lots of time. you'd have to remove/put back the diff casing to the car regardless of going the Installation Kit route, without having to open the diff casing and figure out how to swap the gear rings all you'll need to do is take off ur stock diff and put in the completed unit from wavetrac. make sure all seals are replaced tho.

As a reference for anyone considering doing this, a pumpkin diff swap on my E46 M3 from start to finish took less than 3 hours (how much less time, can't quite recall now). This was done at a shop that is pretty familiar with BMW cars near Placentia, CA; about $300 per car

I am about to answer all the PMs from people but here is an update.

1) MT cars up to March 2007 have bolted DIFS and ONLY need the LSD
2) MT cars after March 2007 have welded DIFS and need to send in their DIF to be machined (The cost of this is 595.00) Core exchange is available for MT CARS
3) AT cars up to mid-2099 have bolted DIFS and ONLY need the LSD
4) I have arranged for a ship in Souther California to do the work for you guys. They charge 240.00 to swap a COMPLETE pumpkin and 500.00 if you are bolted and need the LSD installed. They have one or two cores so there is no core charge if you go that route.

Hope that helps with the question. I will begin updating the list today and tomorrow and get this rolling.

Updated Sign up List - Halfway there - Sending out payment links for deposits tomorrow. This is a GO and stock is limited on wavetracs end so get your names and emails to me ASAP. It will come down to a first serve basis past 10 people.
