Suspension question: How long do control arm bushing and ball joints last on average?

Just wondering about the E90's suspension and how long on average the control arm's bushing and ball joints (as well as the arm itself) last before needing replacement. Assuming I drive a bit hard through the corners vs just freeway cruising. I'm told the E36s and E46s were known for joints that did'nt last, but the E90s have a different design. Also, if it does need replacement, how much does it cost in HK? And where is the cheapest but most reliable place to get it fix. (I would love to "do it myself", but I have no expertise, tools and place to do it in the usual car parks of Hong Kong). Thanks.

I'm hearing some squeaky sounds. So I need to know how long the bushing and joints normally last, and to double check what "Wolfman" said to me is correct (He said there was no problems).

Squeaky sounds on straight flat roads or only when cornering hard or on bumpy roads?

It's not easy to diagnosis here if there is any real issue... better check in a workshop.

In normal situation it lasts for years.

It depends on how harsh you forcing those wearing out parts and your driving habit, road routing such as most freeway or most of the time local....this will determine those parts life cycle especially those parts wore out certain time of usage....

I still have my 25% use of control arms and chamber link took out from my 335 E92 when I changed everything to M3's settings. As of the price of those parts, it is very easy my friend....check out this web site to insert your car type, the price and part numbers of those parts will pop out...the price is pretty much same as what Germany Motor parts in TKW is charging us.....here you go!

It gets pretty squeaky when it corners, but not as much on straight smooth roads.

I'm also wondering how hard and often I can normally push the car. I don't want to abuse it in anyway of course but at the same time, it's a 3 series, even my 4 door-sedan handling's is close to many sport cars, so I want to have some fun with it at the same time. Now I normally drive in a pretty tame fashion, but when I see a nice twisty road, that's prime bmw territory and I want to drive it faster and harder then say a lexus or corolla.

I would suggest you take it to a workshop for a check so that you can get your questions/worries answered. It is not meaning there is issue but just uncertainty

Hey Bro,

As what Croco suggested, take it to your friendly garage in lifting up the guy which you can figure out those control arms and bushing's conditions.......most probably, it is the plastic joint damage i/o those steel arm whereas, you have to change the whole arms when plastic bushings get cracked out.....Hope it helps!!
