Get a Rolex if you want to retain value, no other brands does it better in that department. Whichever model is your own preference tho, if you get the right limited models it might even appreciate in the future.

looked in to getting a rolex but ended up with one of these

Omega Planet ocean all the way. I also have a soft spot. If you are thinking of buying I would recommend unless you are very large going (wrist that is !) for the 42mm variant, as the 45mm is a bit clumsy looking.

Rolex

The Rolex people decided we can afford to pay a extra 7% as off the 4th Oct ,

Price wise they can be a bit expensive I bought a Rolex Submariner date in Aug 1993 and paid 1770 , the same watch today cost 4610 ...
