This is a real pain in the arse, as I am sure it is for many people, but figured it out

Rear footwell lights LED swap DIY

For starters, take a small, flat screwdriver and gently pry the lens cover off from the side. It should eventually pop out.

Then use the screwdriver to push down on the casing inside the console, that should pop out as you gently pry around it.

Then disconnect the wire for the light. You then have little clips inside the housing to gently press to separate the grey piece from the black.

Once out, you may GENTLY use a needle nosed pliers to pull the bulbs out on either side.

Then GENTLY press the metal contacts closer together, and work your LED slowly in, separating the plastic clips on either side until it slides in snug. Be sure the LED contacts are aligned with the filament clips.

Finally, pop the housing back in the console, and the lens. Voila! Pictures below.
