Car Dented on Ferry by another drivers kid

I'm spitting snakes ....

getting into the car after a great couple of days away in France, when a kid opend the door of the car next to me and smacked my door with theirs.

Thre's a small dent and chipped paintwork. I got the registration and contact details but and here's the rub - they're from Luxemburg

Do I have a legal leg to stand on if they refuse to pay voluntarily?

I would estimate the work at arounf 300

Doubt it. My experience with most of Europe is they simply don't give a shit about cars especially in Italy!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably won't cost as much as 300 tho but it don't half piss you off.

Well if you have full details, you might want to check if their home country has a small claims court procedure. If they don't pay, then that would be the only real way I could see you being successful.

You have just as much a legal position in theory as if they were from the UK or anywhere else in the EU.

Practically however it's a different thing. Intstigating legal proceedings in Luxembourg from the UK would be a waste of time and would certainly cost more than 300 if you were successful. If they pay voluntarily then great, if not you'll have to grin and bear it.

Hunt them down. If they don't pay, subject them to a long and harrowing death.

I guess in the first instance, all that you can do is to get it fixed, get a receipt and send it to them. You never know, they may do the decent thing. Were they in an old banger or did they seem 'ok' and not hard up for a bob or two?

If you have 'legal protection' as part of your insurance, you may be able to get them to help without making a claim on your policy?

Nah don't worry, you've not been here long. The comment above from Will is merely mild foreplay...

Yeah I did that and like a fucking tit scuffed both my nearside wheels boarding.

Then after a 10 hour drive in France, scuffed the two offside wheels entering a car park.

Got to laugh about it...
