Yes as part of CPO..but looks like it is a major repair as lotta things have to be taken apart to get access to oil pan.

Search, there was a post here by someone who had done it. The front subframe is in the way of removing it completely, but it can be dropped by a few inches, enough to replace the gasket. Not sure what keeps it from sliding out towards the rear of the car, but I guess I'll find out when I go to replace it in the summer.

Thanks! I think I found that post. I may try this seeing the cost at shop is crazy. Hopefully there is enough room for my big hands to get in there.

ive done several...its not that difficult but you will need a way to support the engine from the top so the subframe can be dropped...and an angle torque wrench to angle torque all the aluminum bolts..

I just did mine on jack stands in my garage. I started off by following this DIY and ended up dropping the sub frame cause my gasket came off in pieces. So I dropped my subframe and just removed the pan. So much easier with subframe dropped and not really that hard.

Any DIY to drop subframe? Mine was leaking but fixed it using Lucas oil stop leak. I'm sure its only temporary so I'll need to change my gasket in the future.
Have shop with all the tools but don't have direction.

Does anyone else know about these at www.workshop-manuals.com? The instructions are rather vague, but at least I have reference for special tools needed.

Anyone have tips on a place to pick up the tools? I am pretty savvy when it comes to maintenance, but it looks like most guys/gals choose to let a shop or stealership handle this job for them due to it being a PITA without lift & special tools.


Anyone have a favorite shop or stealership they recommend for the job in the bay area (San jose/Fremont zone)? Or better yet someone want to volunteer who has the tools or has done one before?

I used a harbor freight engine support bar and the tow hook. Worked out great and was well worth the money. But I also installed new RB turbo's.

If your RWD, it can be done it 3 hours AWD is alittle bit more involving but still do able.

Some guys leave the subframe and everything still attached with it lowered, and work around it. I find it annoying. I unbolt the arms/tie rods from the knuckles. Unbolt the swaybar end links. Remove the lower bolts the engine mounts. Un-bolt the subframe six bolts. Swing it to the right with the power steering lines and link still hooked up and just work with it to the side. Im sure im missing something but you get the picture

Any recommendations for torque wrench or other special tools needed?

I know I need the engine support tool (will be doing mine on jack stands) but am concerned about having a torque wrench small enough to get in there on all of the various bolts for the pan and things I took apart.

I did it w/o removing the subframe, I do not recomend it. Dropping the subframe is a better option.

is there anything connected to subframe? other than the motor mount? i've been trying to find pictures but it's hard to tell. Will i need to remove bumper or anything?

I also heard someone removed the subframe and let it hang from the suspension. Any thoughts?
