Opninion Needed

Just about to order tyres ditching the run flats as cant see the benefit over the cost. Not on UK roads anyway.

Pretty much set on Falken 452s however having previously used Dunlop Sp9000 on my E46sl was wondering if anyone knows how the two makes compare.

Found the Dunlops lasted as long as my previous Michelins and cost a lot less, grip in wet/dry was amazing and after 20K rears still looked good.

Just wondering if its worth going to them again over falkens.

thanks

I don't know what the difference is in cost, but on my 5-er, I'm on Pirelli P-Zero's. Changed all four at once (dumping the RFT's of course!) and the rears are still only 2/3 worn after 27k. Front's are good too of course.
Handling is as good as a 5-er gets and wet grip is excellent. As I've had the past winter without DSC, grip in the snow isn't too bad either!
My driving style: mainly steady, the odd blast. No commuting and I tow a caravan (but not all the time).

I have the same car and wheel size as you.

I changed to Falken FK452 in February. If I was you I would go to one of the mobile tyre fitting companies such as Event Tyres. I paid 380 for 4 - all fitted and balanced on my drive in less than an hour. I would not buy just tyres and then look for a fitter. Main reasons are the hassle factor and also, if there is a problem, such as a re-balance, you have more come-back.

Don't be tempted to over-inflate the tyres to replicate the hardness of a runflat tyre. I just work off the door jamb sticker for the typical number of passengers.

The ride is much better, no more wheel spins etc, but don't expect much in the way of softness. The M-Sport suspension still feels rock hard - although 10x better than with runflats.

With regard to reduced "turn in" as some people describe it, I personally would forget it - I would be amazed if you notice any difference; other than a vast improvement in your driving experience overall.

I looked at few local places and mobile fitters prices where all inc.

Came up as below

Farnham Merrow Tyres 423
Bracknel Tyre and BAttery 370
Event Tyres (Mobile) 411
Black Circle 399

Now the only downside of Bracknell is you do end up loosing couple of hours waiting as they are very busy always but 30 is still a saving. Which mobile firm did you use for 380 as at 10 difference I can live with that.

I got the Falkens fitted by Event last May and very happy.

They really did a great job, very polite, fast and professional. When you order 4 tyres they take 20 off the total as well.

hmm just checked their website and the fronts are labeled as "extra load " any ideas what thats all about, since the rears when you load are not "extra load" labelled

Just worried about mixing the two,
