Insurance betterment on one tire?

Hey guys,

I had one of my rear tires replaced by my insurance company due to an accident and had to pay about $160 as betterment for a newer RFT. However, I'm wondering if having one newer tire and one older one will affect how the car handles...anyone have experience with this issue?

Yes, it can. Since runflats get replaced with annoying frequency, this is yet another reason not to have them.

BTW, that "betterment" charge is really lame. Who's your insurance company? In the US, at least, they don't charge you "betterment" fees when they replace something used and broken with a new part, AFAIK.

I am in socal and insurance is allstate

Yeah I was under the impression that replacement parts would all be covered, but I guess tires are the exception. I would have rather them find a used tire close to the one that was damaged instead of a newer one in this case.

Yeah, it seems like the norm here..but my gripe is more of the fact that there will be uneven wear and the possibility of handling/suspension problems. I understand finding an exact match for my previous used tire can be difficult, but throwing on a newer one seems like it can do more harm plus I had to pay an extra $160 for that harm

Ins company isnt going to run the risk of putting a used tire on someones car. Your just asking for trouble. Its almost a no-win situation when it comes to tires.
